roses are red

My Dearest Peepers...

Roses are red, violets are blue.  This catnip is glorious but sorry, there's none left for you.

Hmmm...

For a Valentine's Day poem, that has potential, for sure.

MOUSES!

My Dearest Peepers...

Roses are red, violets are blue.  I do love you, truly.  Some other kitty pooped in your shoe.

Hmmm...

I'm not sure about that one.  Kinda gives her a heads up 'bout what Saffy's givin' her.

Hee-hee...  In all seriousness, it wasn't actually poop.

MOUSES!

My Dearest Peepers...

Roses are red, violets are blue.  Next time you find yourself up a creek, I'll lend you my paddleless canoe.

Hmmm...

Nope, no sane kitty would trust the peep with their canoe.

Probably never get the thing back.

MOUSES!

My Dearest Peepers...

Roses are red, violets are blue.  I was gonna give you a bird but I let go of it and out the window he flew.

Nah, there's no need for Peepers to think I'm responsible for the mess that stupid ol' bird made.

MOUSES!

My Dearest Peepers...

Roses are red, violets are blue.  I made you this card, myself, so if you're at the dinin' room table, you might wanna mind the spilled glue.

Hmmm...

Now that one has potential, too.  Although it does require my actually makin' a card.  With paper.  And glue.  Nope, I don't need a sticky ol' card stuck on my gorgeous marmalade furs.

Again.

MOUSES!

Perhaps I should use the first poem, after all.  The one 'bout the catnip bein' glorious and whatnot.  It talks about catnip which everyone loves and things you love are appropriate for Valentine's Day.  AND it rhymes.  What could be better than that?

I know!

My Dearest Peepers...

Sorry 'bout not gettin' you any roses, ol' peep of mine.  I bought you some nip and cream, instead.  And whatever you do, don't put your foot in either one of your blue shoes.  HAPPY VALENTINE'S!

PURRS.

And...

'Cause we really mustn't forget.

forty-eight weeks

Roses are red,
Violets are blue...

Hmmm...

Oh, I know!

Roses are red,
Violets are blue.
You should be thankful
when I pee over you!

Love it.

MOUSES!

Oh Peee-Purrrrs....

OH PEEE-PURRRRSSS..

HEY PEEPERS!  I've written a Valentine's Day poem, just for you.  Sit still, will ya?  You know, while I recite it.

Oohhh...  Better yet, sit still while I ACT IT OUT.

*strikes a dramatic pose*

This is gonna be great.

'Specially the part about peein'.

Okay, are you ready?

*clears throat*

Roses are red...

HEY PEEPERS!  Get back here this minute!!!  I wanna act out my Valentine's Day poem for you.

Of all the no good for nothin' peeps.

MOUSES!

I'm tellin' ya...

MOUSES!

You know, you'd THINK that a peep would be appreciative of the fact that a cat who has been cooped up with said peep for the last two hundred and sixty-one million, two hundred and seventy-three thousand, six hundred cat seconds, has taken the time to write a Valentine's Day poem just for her.  You'd THINK that a peep would be appreciative of a cat's poetry, for sure.

Yeah, that's what you'd think.

But my peep?

OH NO...

MY peep is the most unappreciative peep that ever did live.

And to think I was gonna act out the poem and everythin'.

Stupid peep.

MOUSES!

Hmmph.  Bet she'll be unappreciative of the mouse I put under her pillow, too.

JUST KIDDIN'.  Let me tell you somethin', my friends: IF I WERE to find a mouse, I'd be keepin' that mouse for myself.

Peepers doesn't deserve to have one.

MOUSES!

AND ANOTHER THING...

Uh...

Umm...

Hmm, I seem to have lost my train of thought.

Oh, I know!

*snaps claws*

AND ANOTHER THING, Peepers is the one who should be writin' ME Valentine's Day poems.  Not the other way around.  I mean, it was very thoughtful of me to write her a poem, for sure.  VERY thoughtful, indeed.  But really and truly, my agreein' to allow her to be my peep is pretty much the greatest gift of all, so when it comes to givin' gifts, she has lots and lots of gift givin' to make up for.

Why...

Why...

WHY IT'S LIKE MY VERY EXISTENCE is her Valentine's Day gift.

She had better have gotten me somethin' good this year.

Somethin' BETTER than a stupid poem.

Did I say that aloud?

MOUSES!

how do I love thee?

How do I love thee?

Hmmm...

Now let's see...

Hmmm...

Uh...

Well...

Oh, I know!  Let me count the ways.

HMMM...

Okay, so that doesn't help.  I appear to be back where I started.

Actually, I appear to be worse off than when I started.  Countin' the ways doesn't help me at all!

I got nothin'.

MOUSES!

OH PEEE-PURRRS...

Hey Peepers!  I'm tryin' to come up with a Valentine's Day card or a letter or somethin' for you, and I appear to be havin' some difficulties.  The thing is, I can't think of any reasons why I love you.  Can you think of somethin' I might be able to write?

Well you don't have be like that.

MOUSES!

For mousin' out loud, a kitty asks a peep why said kitty might love said peep - ON ACCOUNT OF SAID KITTY TRYIN' TO WRITE A REALLY SWEET AND THOUGHTFUL NOTE for a Valentine's Day card - and what does a kitty get?

NOTHIN' BUT CHEEK.

MOUSES!

Not to mention a look like she swallowed a lemon.

MOUSES!

HEY PEEPERS!  If you won't help me with this here card, you probably won't get anythin' for Valentine's Day.  It's not like there are kitties lining up at the door just waitin' to...

Hold that thought.

Nope, there are no kitties linin' up at the door waitin' to give you Valentine's Day cards.  I double-checked and everythin'.

MOUSES!

So let's get back to business, shall we?  I was tryin' to figure out what you do for me, and I was thinkin' about the food that you give me, not to mention the treats.  And then there are my nip plants you water, when they need waterin'.  And the nip toys you make every now and then.  And the chin tickles!  I do really like those.  I like the behind the ear scritches, too.  Those are all reasons I might love you.

I suppose.

But then I realised how as a responsible cat parent, you have to do all that stuff anyway.  You know?

PLUS, you do a lot of stuff that annoys me to no end, which kinda counteracts the stuff you do to make me happy.  You know what I'm talkin' about.  Doctor appointments, flea dabs, general complaints 'bout my fur gettin' all over your clothes when I sleep on 'em after bein' laundered...  That sort of thing.

AND FYI, it's not MY fault your black jacket is forever covered in orange fur.  Not my fault the dry cleaner gave up the ghost and took an early retirement after tacklin' that jacket, either.  You should learn to leave your jackets on hangers in closets I CAN'T get into, Peepers.  Not to mention on hangers high enough I can't bring 'em down if I jump real high and hold on.

MOUSES!

So anyway...

So anyway, I was tryin' to come up with somethin' extra special you do for me that might make me love you.  That's the kinda thing I wanna put in this here card, you see.  The EXTRA SPECIAL stuff that you do.

And you know what?

I got nothin'.  Nothin' at all.

MOUSES!

You know, Peepers, there are peeps out there who go the extra mile for their cats.  Peeps out there who really go all out to keep their kitties happy.  Peeps who order in raw meat and subscribe to Animal Planet and stuff.

You think you could start bein' a peep like that?

Oh, and if you do - BY FRIDAY - you'll get an extra special Valentine's Day card from me.  'Cause the thing is Peepers, I REALLY DO LOVE YOU.

Although for the nine lives of me, I can't figure out why.

MOUSES!

And FYI, Peepers, if you happen to find a heart-shaped box of nip leaf wrapped cod liver oil pills, THEY'RE NOT FOR YOU.  I understand there's a new ladycat a couple streets over, and I wanna make a good impression when I go callin', you see.

MOUSES!

say it with love

If you're gonna say it, say it with love.

MOUSES!

As many of  you already know, tomorrow is Valentine's Day.  A day for peeps to tell their fur-babies how much they love 'em.

Yeah, yeah...  A day for us fur-babies to tell our peeps how much we love them, too.

MOUSES!

Well as you can imagine, I've been busy planning my Valentine's Day celebrations for quite some time now.  I don't wanna be caught at the last minute without a gift for the peeps, you see.  Not like last year, 'cause let me tell you somethin', a kitty forgets 'bout Valentine's Day ONE YEAR, and a kitty never hears the end of it, for sure.

MOUSES!

So...

So the other mornin', Peep #1 picked me up and popped me onto the family room chair to give me a pill or somethin' stupid like that.  Now normally, I'm a very good kitty when it comes to takin' meds and stuff.  NORMALLY, I'm super good, for sure.  In fact, one might even say I'm THE BEST IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD, but...

But this particular mornin', I had been preoccupied plannin' my Valentine's Day celebrations.  Gettin' ahead of the game, so to speak.  In fact, I had been SO preoccupied, I had forgotten to make my mornin' trip to the ol' litter box.  I was way too busy to be dealin' with mundane stuff like that, and I figured I'd scoot on over to the box a little while later.  You know, when I was all done planning and scheming and...  Uh...  Planning, and stuff.  That sorta thing.

MOUSES!

Well the next thing I knew, Peep #1 was pickin' me up.  I squirmed a bit, lettin' her know I had a full bladder and that she might wanna take it easy there, and...

Picture it:  Me, Seville the Cat, up on the big chair in the family room, lyin' on my tummy, my tail end directed toward the peep, and...

And as you can imagine...

Well...

Well, I peed upon the peep.

Oh, and it was a really good pee, too.  Mornin' pees always are, you see.

MOUSES!

Peep #2 said, "I think that's supposed to be lucky."

Peep #1 was not amused.

MOUSES!

So anyway...

So anyway, I looked up at the peep and said, "Sorry 'bout that, Peepers, but uh...  But um...  Hmmm..."

"I hope you weren't making a statement," Peep #1 said to me.

"Oh no, I just really needed to pee."

We locked eyes for a moment, the peep and I.  Then I added, "But if I WERE makin' a statement, I would have been makin' it with love.  Valentine's Day is comin' up and so uh..  Um...  So EVERYTHIN' I do right now is most definitely done with love."

Oddly enough, the peep didn't buy that.  Nope, not one bit.  Methinks she's still expectin' a prezzie from me, but she may be in for a big ol' disappointment on that front, on account of my havin' accidentally eaten the catnip I was plannin' on savin' for her, so I'm thinkin'...

I'm thinkin' I'm gonna just spin this peeing-on-peeps-with-love thing a bit more, makin' her think she already got a REALLY GOOD prezzie from me.

'Cause you know, it was a REALLY GOOD PEE.

And if she doesn't buy THAT, I'll remind her how fortunate she was that it was...

You know...

ONLY PEE.

MOUSES!

Valentine's Day

Another year, another Valentine's Day.

*sighs*

Another Valentine's Day spent without a Valentine.

*SIGHS*

WOE IS ME.

*SIGHS*

On the other paw, judgin' by some of the stuff I see on television and read on the Internet, not havin' a ladycat to be my Valentine might actually be a good thing.

MOUSES!

I mean, without a Valentine, I have no ladycats constantly naggin' at me, wantin' me to do this, and wantin' me to do that.  Wantin' me to take 'em here and there and everywhere. And COMPLAININ' if I don't.

Although truth be told, Mason is quite the nag.  But Mason is just my sister, so she doesn't count.

At least not in the department of ladycats.

MOUSES!

Actually, Mason's not so much a nag as she is a no good for nothin', judgemental...

Hmmm...  Perhaps I had best not complete that sentence.  After all, this here is a family-friendly blog.

Plus, I really don't wanna get into the details 'bout WHAT Mason was last bein' judgemental, for fear that it might paint me in a...  Um...  In a not quite so pristine light.

But for the record, I did not do it.  No sirree.  It was someone else.  Someone other than me.

MOUSES!

I wonder...

I wonder if Peep #1 could be my Valentine.  Different kinda Valentine, for sure.  After all, she's not a ladycat, and to be the Valentine of a gorgeous marmalade mancat such as myself, bein' a ladycat is a necessity.

And the peep...

Well the peep is just a peep.

It's really not the same thing.

And anyway, as a Valentine, Peep #1 is a TOTAL FAILURE, for sure.  I mean, not even once has she ever given me a box of chocolates.  Although technically, that's a good thing, 'cause chocolates can make a kitty very, very sick.  Or worse.  MOUSES!

But the least she could do would be to buy me a box of treats.

That is if she wanted to be my Valentine.

She could also think 'bout givin' me some flowers.

Well not so much flowers, as nip.

Yeah, if the peep were to be my Valentine, she would need to buy me a great big bouquet of catnip.  It wouldn't need to be of the long-stemmed variety.  In fact, when it comes to the nip, stems are the trashy bits of the plant.  A nip connoisseur such as myself wants nip that's all buds and leaves, if you know what I mean, and none of the trash.

MOUSES!

But still...

The fact remains...

The peep is just a peep.

Hmmm....  It seems to me that I, Seville the Cat, am destined to once again spend Valentine's Day all alone.  All by myself.  All by my lonesome.  Just me.

*sighs*

Another Valentine's Day all on my own.

*SIGHS*

Another Valentine's Day with no one but...

(From the family room, Mason's voice can be heard.)

Andy!  Give me back my nip mouse.  Rushton!  Stop sniffing at my tail.  Andy!  Those are MY treats.  Go get your own.  Rushton!  I was about to curl up in that box.  Get out of it right now.  Andy!...

On the other paw, a Valentine's Day without a Valentine is definitely THE BEST kinda Valentine's Day for me.

Remember what I said 'bout those ladycats?

the missing heart

Has anyone seen my nip heart?

Humph, no answer.

Has anyone seen my nip heart?

STILL no answer.

HAS ANYONE SEEN MY NIP HEART?

Hey Peepers, have you seen my nip heart?  I'm lookin' for the red one.  With Valentine's Day comin' up, I wanna make sure I have my red, white, and pink nip hearts all in a row, so to speak, and ready for me to do some major nippin'.  So do you happen to know where it is?

Well if I knew where I left it, I wouldn't be LOOKIN' for it, now would I.

Of all the stupid, moused-up questions.

MOUSES!

Peepers, can you check your jacket pockets to see if it's in one of them?  I tried checkin' myself, but I can't reach your black winter jacket in the front hall closet.  It's up too high.

And uh...  Never mind 'bout those two winter coats lyin' on the closet floor, okay?  Just ignore 'em.  Pretend they're not even there.

Pretend they're not lyin' on the floor, I mean.

MOUSES!

'Cause I was tryin' to check inside your jacket pockets, that's why.

Do I have to explain EVERYTHIN' to you?

MOUSES!

It's like this, Peepers:  When I realized your jacket was up too high for me to reach, I tried climbin' up one of the longer coats hangin' next to it.  'Cause the coats are just a paw's reach from the floor.  I can grab hold of them.  So anyway, there I was, halfway up the taupe coloured one, when all of a sudden, OUT OF ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE, the stupid ol' coat decided to slip right off its hanger and fall to the floor.

Well I'm gettin' to that.

So after I brought down the first coat...  I MEAN, after the first coat slid off its hanger and fell to the floor, ALL OF ITS OWN ACCORD, I figured it must have been because it had been hangin' on some kinda messed up, faulty hanger, or some such thing.  So of course, I did what any cat would do.  I climbed up another coat.  Turns out, the front hall closet is RIDDLED with messed-up, faulty hangers.  You should probably do somethin' about that.

But anyway, 'nough 'bout this faulty hanger business.  That's not important.  It's not nearly as important as my findin' my red nip heart, so could you go check your jacket pockets please?  I'm pretty sure that's where my red nip heart is.

It must be there Peepers, BECAUSE I HAVE LOOKED EVERYWHERE ELSE.

Yes I have.

Yes I have.

YES, I HAVE.

As a matter of fact, I did.  I did look in the coffee table drawer.

And before you ask, that coffee table drawer has a couple faulty hinges, for sure.  MOUSES!

PEEPERS, COULD YOU PLEASE GO LOOK IN YOUR JACKET POCKETS NOW?  I'm desperate over here.

I told you Peepers, I've looked everywhere.  I looked under the chesterfield, and under the chairs, and...  Well you already know 'bout the coffee table drawer.  Plus, I looked under the kitchen table, and the china cabinet in the dinin' room, and the beds upstairs, and..

That reminds me...  Wait a minute.  Be right back.

I'm back.  For a moment there, I thought my red nip heart might be in the linen closet upstairs, 'cause I was in there yesterday afternoon, knockin' towels off the shel...  I MEAN, I was in there yesterday gettin' comfy on the top shelf when some towels accidentally, ALL OF THEIR  OWN ACCORD, slid off the shelves and onto the floor.  I think the shelvin' must be sloped or somethin'.  I'm thinkin' it's faulty shelvin', for sure.  MOUSES!.

But anyway...

Anyway, it turns out my nip heart wasn't up on that top shelf after all.

Truth be told, there's nothin' at all up on that top shelf now.  MOUSES!

'CAUSE I HAD TO LOOK IN ALL THE CORNERS, AND UNDERNEATH EVERYTHIN', FOR MY RED NIP HEART, THAT'S WHY.

Does the peep not understand anythin' at all?

Just go look in your jacket pockets for my nip heart, okay Peepers?

Thank you.

MOUSES!

It's not there?  Really?  And you checked both pockets?  ARE YOU SURE?

For mousin' out loud.  I was positive it would be in one of 'em.  I've looked everywhere else.  Like quite literally, EVERYWHERE.  I even looked...

Oh hi Mason.  YOU wouldn't happen to know where my red nip heart would be, would you?

You don't say.

Hmmm...

Never mind 'bout the red nip heart, Peepers.  Mason says it's lyin' on the floor in the hallway.  Guess I left it there after playin' with it this mornin'.

MOUSES!

blown off-course

THUMP!

"What the mouses?" cried Seville as he looked up from his computer. "Snowball hit my office window or something?  Is someone throwing snowballs at my window?"

The marmalade cat got up from his desk, hopped onto the window ledge, and peered outside. "Awww...  MOUSES!  It's a bird.  I can see a wing protruding out of the snow."

"Peepers!  OH PEEPERS!" Seville yelled.  "Bird down, outside.  You wanna do something about that?"

The cat's cries were met with silence.

"For mousin' out loud," Seville muttered under his breath.  "PEEPERS!  PEEPERS!  There's a bird outside needing your help.  Did you hear me?  Some stupid bird hit my office window and as I'm busy working on my blog post, you're gonna have to deal with him.  Okay?"

Settling back in at his desk, Seville started to type but after a few minutes, he realized that Peep #1 had not yet gone to the aid of the injured bird.  "MOUSES!  Boy-oh-boy I have a useless peep.  I can see I'm gonna have to go outside and help that bird myself."

Seville stomped across the office floor, toward the door.  Stepping outside, he made his way over to where he had spotted the bird earlier.  "Oh my mouses!" he gasped, stopping dead in his tracks. "Uhhh...  Ummm....  Excuse me but uh...  I'll be right back."

Racing back into the house, Seville yelled up to Peep #1 from the bottom of the stairs. "PEEPERS! We've got the weirdest looking bird out front.  He's pretty big for a normal bird and not at all pretty and I think he's wearing a diaper.  Seriously Peepers, you have got to go out there and deal with that uh... thing.  And could you get on that right away 'cause to be perfectly honest, he's kinda freaking me out.  Peepers!  PEEPERS!  You up there, Peepers?  Come on, I need your help down here.  PEEPERS!!!"

Met with silence once more, Seville threw his paws up in the air with frustration and stomped back outside.  "Diaper or no diaper, I can see I'm the only one capable of dealing with this stupid bird.  I have got to get myself some better staff.  MOUSES!"

"Hey, did you just call me a bird?" the bird asked.

"He wears a diaper and talks.  MOUSES!"

"I am not a bird, sir.  The name is Cupid and would you mind helping me out of this snow?  It's really cold."

Seville grabbed Cupid by the arms and pulled him to his feet.  Narrowing his eyes he asked, "Are you sure you're not a bird?  You have wings like a bird."

"I am most definitely not a bird," Cupid scowled.  "A cat thinking I'm a bird.  Of all the...  Oh, it's absolutely FREEZING out here!" he cried, and beginning to shiver, he drew his arms close.  "How can you stand it?"

"Yeah, well welcome to Canada, buddy with wings but who's not a bird.  It's the middle of February so that kinda means there's gonna be snow and it's gonna be cold.  Maybe if you weren't flying around out here in nothing but a diaper..."

"It is NOT a diaper!" Cupid yelled.

Seville raised an eyebrow.  "Really?  'Cause uh...  'Cause it kinda looks like a diaper to me.  Hey! Watch where you're pointing that thing," and he pushed Cupid's bow and arrow away from him.  "You could hurt somebody with that."  Seville sat back on his haunches and stared at Cupid.  "Okay, so you're not a bird.  Not even a diaper-wearing bird.  But you do look pretty cold.  Why don't you come inside and warm up."

Cupid sat down at the kitchen table while Seville poured two mugs of hot nip tea.  "Get this into you and you'll feel a whole lot better," advised Seville.  "So tell me, how did you end up in my neck of the woods and crashing into my office window?"

"That last Nor'easter blew me off course.  I tried flying around it but got caught up in some tail winds and then when they turned..."

"You have a tail?  I didn't see any tail," and Seville tried to get a glimpse of the back of Cupid. Seeing nothing but wings he gave up and asked, "Cinnamon heart?" The cat pushed a candy dish across the table after grabbing a pawful of the candies himself and popping a couple in his mouth.

"But they're green," Cupid stated, staring at the heart-shaped candies.

"That's on account of the nip," explained Seville, crunching down on one.  "Nip makes 'em green."

Cupid picked up a candy and sniffed it.  "And they smell..."

"Nippy?  Of course they smell nippy.  That, too, is on account of the nip.  I get Peep #1 to make 'em for me using nip in place of the cinnamon.  Much better that way, for sure."

"But then why do you call them Cinnamon Hearts?" asked Cupid.

"Oh my mouses, Cupid.  They're called Cinnamon Hearts because today is Valentine's Day. Everyone knows you have to have Cinnamon Hearts for Valentine's Day.  Valentine's Day just wouldn't be the same without a few Cinnamon Hearts on the go.  You're not too up on this Valentine's Day business, are you?"

"Well actually," began Cupid, "Valentine's Day IS my business.  It's my busiest day of the year and I cannot believe, for the life of me, that I'm stuck here in a cold and snowy place, conversing with a marmalade cat at his kitchen table and eating catnip-flavoured, green Cinnamon Hearts that do not look or taste like real Cinnamon Hearts at all."

"And don't forget how you're doing all that while wearing a diaper," added Seville.

"It is NOT a diaper!" Cupid cried.  "Look Mr. Cat, I need to get out of here and fast.  Today is Valentine's Day and I have work to do."

"Work?  YOU GO TO WORK WEARING A DIAPER?  Just what kind of work do you do?"

Cupid opened his mouth to complain about the diaper comment again but thought better of it.  He needed Seville's help.  "Please...  I'm not sure that I'm up to flying on my own.  I hit that window pretty hard.  Maybe I could catch a last-minute flight.  Is there an airport nearby?"

"Not a commercial one, no.  Where is it that you need to go?"

"I needed to be in Paris hours ago.  Are you sure there are no International airports around here?" asked Cupid.

"Sorry kiddo but...  WAIT A MINUTE!" and Seville slapped a paw to his forehead.  "I can teleport you over to Paris in a jiffy.  You ever travelled before using eggbeater teleportation technology?"

Cupid screwed up his face.  "Eggbeater what?"

"Eggbeater teleportation technology," Seville repeated slowly, exaggerating every syllable. "Mouses, don't know why I didn't think of that before.  I can get you to Paris in mere minutes.  That would be Paris, France, I assume.  Or were you heading for Paris, Ontario?  Doesn't matter, really. All I need are the global teleportation co-ordinates and we'll be all set.  Well all set except for..."

"Except for what?" Cupid questioned.

"Well except for that stupid diaper you're wearing.  No way, no how, am I travelling all the way to either of those two Paris places with a bird or a baby or whatever you are, while you're wearing nothing but a diaper."

"But it's not a..."

"Yeah, yeah," Seville interrupted.  "You keep saying that and one day, someone might even believe you, but that someone is not gonna be me.  A diaper is a diaper is a diaper, for sure. Hmmm...  We're going to have to find you an outfit of some sort. Neighbours' dog over on the next street has an entire wardrobe of jackets and stuff and I think you and he are about the same size.  I'll pop over and ask if I can borrow one for you while you find this Paris place on a map.  Meet you back here in ten minutes for teleporation.  Okay?  Okay."

Seville was still muttering as he turned to leave for the neighbours' house.  "Gosh, some baby bird guy hits your office window and you try to help him out but all he does is argue about diapers and stuff.  Gotta get rid of him quickly so that I can get back to working on my blog and wish everyone a Happy Valentine's Day, for sure.  MOUSES!"

                                    *******************************************

               HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY EVERYBODY!

interestin'...

So Jon Stewart is leavin' the Daily Show, huh? Interestin'...

What is even more interestin' is who will be his replacement and what is the most interestin' of all is why no one from the show has contacted me. I mean, who better to replace Jon Stewart than I, Nerissa the Cat?   Who wouldn't wanna see me on nightly TV?   MOUSES!

Now that bein' said, Jon Stewart is gonna be super hard to replace.  The man is in a league of his own, for sure.  No one - and when I say no one, I mean NO ONE, except possibly that Rick Mercer dude - has ever done the kind of stuff that Jon Stewart has done or at least if they have, I wasn't award of them doin' so which makes me kinda think that, like I said before, the man is in a league of his own.  Again I must say, MOUSES!

Of course, the man is not the King of the Run-on-Sentence but only one of us can be King and... Well..  That would be me.  I mean, I.  Hmmm..  Yup, I is exactly what I mean although it really does sound kinda weird, I'll give you that, for sure.

So if the powers-that-be are lookin' to find some peep to fill Jon Stewart's shoes, they're gonna have a tough time with that.  Even I would have an awfully tough time fillin' his shoes but you see, since I don't wear shoes, on account of my bein' a cat and all, I wouldn't even try.  I might try to walk in his pawprints or somethin' like that but I would never actually try to fill his shoes.

My sister, Mason, might wanna try that though.  Fill his shoes, I mean.  Mason is into shoes. She's always tryin' to play with the peeps' shoes.  Give her a pair of shoes and she'll stick her paws in 'em, stick her head 'em, chew on 'em, attack 'em and even possibly try to fling 'em across the room whereas I, Nerissa the Cat, am just not into that.

And speakin' of shoes...  My brother Seville has discovered Valerian root.  You ever try the stuff?  I don't like it myself.  Smells like stinky feet or at least, that's what they say.  Peep #1 grew some Valerian and I gave it a sniff but it did nothin' for me.  Seville, on the other paw, was right into it.  He found a root growin' out of the bottom of a pot and was on that root like nip on cheese or better yet, me on a nip mouse.  You give me a nip mouse and I'm gonna be on that, for sure.

Now of course, I have no idea whether or not Jon Stewart's shoes smell like Valerian root and therefore, like stinky feet but IF they do, Seville would wanna try to fill 'em, for sure.  He'd be stickin' his head in those shoes and dreamin' of Valerian root.  You see, that's what cats like Seville do. MOUSES!

Once I came inside the house with stinky paws but it was a totally different kind of stink.  It happened last year, before Peep #1 went and ruined our outdoor loo by plantin' all those primroses in it.  Anywho...  There I was, diggin' in the loo when I accidentally dug in the wrong spot, diggin' up someone else's...  poo.

Diggin' in that exact spot was not a good idea, I can assure you.  Not that it actually was an idea. Wasn't done intentionally or anythin'.  I dug in the wrong spot totally by accident but let me tell you, I'll never do that again.  And the worst part was the embarrassment of the whole situation.  I had to ask Peep #1 to clean off my paws for me 'cause quite frankly, I wasn't touchin' that stuff,  myself. MOUSES!

But back to the topic at paw.  I can think of no valid reason why I, Nerissa the Cat, should not be offered the job of replacin' Jon Stewart on the Daily Show.  Can you?

Don't answer that.

But if your answer is no, you can go ahead and answer it all you like.

Normally I don't like the word no but I've found that if one words the question carefully enough, an answer of no can be kind of like the cat's meow.

And in other news, Valentine's Day is this weekend.  Yup, only a few days away so if you haven't made preparations, now is the time to prepare those preparations, for sure.

I've decided to break with tradition this year and give the peeps nothin' but love for Valentine's Day. In previous years, I've given Peep #1 stuff like a rose bush or a bottle of stink but those prezzies always came back to haunt me.  For instance, the potted rose I gave her a couple of years ago ended up occupyin' a sunpuddle in the sunroom.  It was a really good sunpuddle, too.  Can't tell you how much I missed lying in that sunpuddle on account of that stupid ol' rose bush sittin' there. Sittin' there in the middle of my favourite sunpuddle and tauntin' me.  MOUSES!  I am never makin' that mistake again.

And as for givin' the peep a bottle of stink...  Do you know what happens when your peep puts on that stinky stuff just prior to pickin' you up and givin' you a cuddle?  I can tell you exactly what happens.  You end up stinkin' of stink, too.

Now if someone were to invent nip perfume...

Hmmm....  I think I shall put inventin' nip perfume on my to-do list.  There's nothin' stinky 'bout nip stink and that's a fact, for sure.

And one last bit of news is that we have now officially run out of places to put any more snow so if any of you are talkin' with Mother Nature, please inform her that she has sent enough of the white stuff and is to send us no more.  I'm tired of walkin' through it and the peeps are tired of shovellin' it but most importantly, we've simply run out of room.

The weatherpeeps are threatening that there will be more white stuff arrivin' this Friday but if they're right, I'm gonna pack up all that snow and mark it with, "return to sender."  I've had it with the white stuff.  I'd say, "I've had it up to here," but quite frankly, I can't reach the 'here.'  I'd have to get the big ladder out of the garage to reach the 'here' in 'had it up to here' but I can't do that on account of the pile of white stuff, blockin' me from gettin' into the garage.  MOUSES!

So there you have it, my friends.  That's the news of the hour.  The news of the day.  The news of the week, for sure.  If I happen to hear from the Daily Show in the next day or two, I'll let you know. If not, I'll see on you Sunday.  Enjoy the rest of your week.  purrs

love your kitties

Love your kitties for they're worth their weight in gold.  Yes, even the two tonne tessie marmalade brother ones.  It's a lot of weight.  It's a lot of gold!  But still, please...  love your kitties for they're worth it, for sure.

So Valentine's Day is comin' up. Everyone out there know about that? The day when peeps give one another flowers and candy and pretty sparkly bling-like things.  It's also the day when peeps give their kitties nip-filled toys, nip plants and extra treats and whatnot. Everybody out there know about that?

I read somewhere 'bout how this Valentine's Day was named 'cause of some Saint named Valentine or Valentinus or somethin' or other.  Kind of sounded like there might be more than one dude out there with the same or similar name.  And I found mention that some of this Saint's stuff was kept for a while at the catacombs of San Valentino in Rome.  Catacombs...  CATacombs.  Clearly, St. Valentine's Day should be more cat based than it is.  There really should be more nip involvement, if you know what I mean.

Anywho...  nowadays Valentine's Day is all about love.  Everywhere you look there are hearts and cupids and all sorts of things symbolising love.  That's why, on St. Valentine's Day of all days, you should be lovin' your kitties up.

Personally, I've devised a schedule for my peeps for February 14th.  We're gonna start with a breakfast including extra Fancy Feast 'cause you know...  I do love my Fancy Feast.

After breakkies, we're gonna have some play time.  We cats got a lot of toys at Christmas, some of which we've barely touched.  Time to try out the new Cat Dancers, for sure.  I have noted on my schedule that special attention should be paid to any toys that include cat - peep interaction like wand toys, dancers and teasers.  I've scheduled Peep #1 for an hour of actually playin' with me and not just tossin' me a bag full of nip.

But don't you worry, there will be nip.  I suspect that after an hour of chasin' a mouse on a string, I'm gonna be pretty worn out.  Nothin' like a little nap with my head gently restin' on a nippafied biff bag. I've allotted two, half hour slots for just such an activity.

While I'm nappin', the peeps can wrap my prezzies.  I'm expecting some prezzies.  I'm hopin' for some prezzies.  Maybe a new nip toy?  Perhaps a nip plant?  Oohhh...  maybe some shares in a nip farm, complete with samples of the nip, of course.

That's the mornin' taken care of and, I suspect, the afternoon will be pretty much the same.  All in all, Valentine's Day is shapin' up quite nicely.  I'm lookin' forward to it, for sure.

Now you're probably all wonderin' what I'm gonna give the peeps for Valentine's Day.  Got that covered.

As I mentioned earlier, Valentine's Day is all about love.  That makes it all about hearts and that, my friends, makes Valentine's Day all about purrs. PURRS!  Yes, purrs.

Did you know that a cat's purr can heal a human heart?  It's true!  I read all about it on the Internet. Well actually, I was simply confirmin' what I already knew.  I've read about it before in magazines and whatnot and, quite honestly, this is one of the things we cats are born knowin'.  It's a fact.

The purrs of a cat are known to be medically therapeutic.  Purrs vibrate in the range of 20 to 140 Hz which is known to benefit cats and peeps, medically.

Purrin' cats can heal both bone and soft tissue.  In fact, there's even an old veterinary adage that says, "If you put a cat and a bunch of broken bones in the same room, the bones will heal."  I didn't make that up.  No sirree...   found it on the Internet on several sites.  Apparently, doctors have been sayin' this for quite some time.

But what about the heart?  After all, it is Valentine's Day we're talkin' about here.  Can a cat's purr really heal a peep's heart?  You bet.  The purrin' of a cat has been known to lower blood pressure and stress.  Purrs can also help heal infections and swelling.  All of these things, I think, can affect the human heart.  In fact, there was even a study somewhere that found that peeps livin' with cats are forty percent less likely to have a heart attack.  MOUSES!  We cats are like medical geniuses with our purrs.  Hope you all knew about that.

Then, of course, there's the fact that we cats simply fill our peeps' hearts with love.  Love that bursts at the seams.  You cats out there have all witnessed this, I am sure.  Your peep takes a look at you nappin' or playin' or just...  you know...  breathin'...  and the next thing you hear are the oohs and ahhs 'cause we're just so irresistibly cute and adorable and, quite simply, we take our peeps' breath away.  We're that cute.  Yes indeedy, we are.

Anywho...  that's what I'm plannin' on givin' the peeps for St. Valentine's Day.  I'm gonna purr for 'em. I'm gonna purr and purr and purr and then, after all that purrin', I'm gonna purr some more.

My brother Seville also has a gift for the peeps.  He's gonna revise his role as poet and recite that ol' poem he wrote for the peep a couple of years ago after his first bout with the crystals. Remember that poem Sivvers wrote? No?  Oh.  Well...  it was called Easy Peasy and went somethin' like this...

     The more I drink,
     the more I pee.
     The more I pee,
     the easier it be.
     Easy peasy.
     That's the key!

And then, if I remember correctly, he peed on the peep.  Yup, it's true.  I'm thinkin' that Seville hasn't quite yet grasped the whole St. Valentine's Day gift givin' thing.

HAPPY ST. VALENTINE'S DAY TO ALL!
