how illuminatin'

Well, well, well...

How very illuminatin', indeed.

MOUSES!

Not the first time I've received an invite like this.  Probably won't be the last, either.

'Cause you know, I'm a very popular kinda guy.

MOUSES!

Now for those of you who follow my fan page, Nerissa's Life, over on Facebook; you already know all about this.  But not all my pals are on the ol' book of faces, so some of you may not have heard.  But whether you have or have not yet heard, what I'm about to tell you bears repeatin', for sure.

MOUSES!

About a week ago or so, I received an invitation from someone named Alicia B.  I had previously received somethin' similar over on the ol' bird app.  Apparently, Alicia and her co-conspirators are now tryin' to infiltrate Bluesky.

MOUSES!

Illuminati invitation:  Based on the membership criterion of the Illuminati, we find you are of great interest in possession of a good mastery of manual dexterity and academic proficiency.  With this, we look at you as the class that will be the platform for which you stand to meet the wealthy people who can raise you to wealth, power, fame and glory.  I strongly recommend that you join us in the Illuminati.  Joining us you become wealthy and live the life you desire.  Do you accept the offer?

WHO THE HECK FALLS OF THIS KINDA LITTERBOX POOP?

MOUSES!

My first hint that Alicia B was a scammy scammery scammer type was pretty obvious.  I really don't think The Illuminati are out there tryin' to recruit peeps on social media, AND I DEFINITELY don't think they're tryin' to recruit cats.

On the other paw...

On the other paw, boostin' the feline membership of their organization would be a massive improvement, for sure.

After all, we are cats.

MOUSES!

But odds are, they don't think like that.  They probably don't even KNOW I'm a cat.

Which brings me to the second hint this Alicia B is some kinda scammy scammery scammer type: She SHOULD know I'm a cat.  If she's smart enough to be in the Illuminati, she should be smart enough to know that someone named Seville the CAT is a...

Well, you know...

A CAT!

But apparently not.

MOUSES!

And my third hint Alicia B is a scammy scammery scammer type is her poor use of the English language, especially for someone in the Illuminati.  There's only ONE criterion they're lookin' for, for potential membership?  Should there not be multiple criteria?  There's a whole sentence in there that makes no sense, whatsoever.  Nope, I can't make head nor tail of it, at all.  And as a cat, I HAVE a tail, which should give me some kinda advantage, for sure.

AND FOR MOUSIN' OUT LOUD, HAS THE WOMAN NEVER HEARD OF THE OXFORD COMMA?

MOUSES!

But of course, after receivin' the invitation, EVEN THOUGH I KNEW BETTER, I must admit I was kinda hopin' it was real.  After all, joinin' the Illuminati would be super prestigious, for sure.

If it were real.

If it were real, what a coo it would be to join!

And this...  This feelin' of bein' recognised and appreciated and singled-out as bein' special, my friends, is the very reason cats and peeps might fall for these scams.

But then I remembered, as a cat, I ALREADY AM a member of the most prestigious organisation out there, to be had.

IT'S CALLED CAT.

I don't need no stupid Illuminati to tell me how wonderful I am.

'CAUSE I'M A CAT.

I AM ALL THAT.

So please, take it from me and don't be fooled by the likes of Alicia B.

MOUSES!

catfishing

Catfishin':  The activity of catchin' catfish.

Hmmm...

Nope, I don't think that's it.

Catfishin':  Fishin' for cats.

Now, is that an instruction manual for cats who wanna be fishers?  Like Fishin' for Dummies, perhaps?

Probably not.  After all, we cats don't need to fish.  We delegate that kinda work to our peeps.  After all, that is what they're there for.  PLUS, we are anythin' but dumb.

MOUSES!

Or could fishin' for cats be the act of peeps tryin' to catch cats.

Nah, I really don't think is was that kinda catfishin', either.

Although I, Seville the Cat, am a cat.

And they were kinda fishin'...

So maybe...

Nope, I'm just gonna put it out there and say he was not fishin' for cats.

MOUSES!

Catfishin':  Lurin' someone into a relationship usin' a fictional online persona.

Hmmm....

Yeah, THAT'S what he was doin', for sure.

Although not all that successfully, I'm afraid.

MOUSES!

Hey Christopher!  I'm not interested.  Your kinda fishin' sucks.  Talk to me when you've caught an actual fish.

FYI, I enjoy salmon.

MOUSES!

Gonna say it again.

MOUSES!

Has that ever happened to you, my dear friends?  Has that ever happened to you?  Have you ever received DMs over on the ol' bird app or on Bluesky, from peeps WHOM YOU DON'T KNOW FROM A HOLE IN THE WALL who just outta the blue, send you a message sayin' hi or how ya doin'?  Or friend requests on Facebook from doctors and lawyers and exceptionally high-rankin' military personnel?  Has it?  Has it happened to you?

Well it happened to me just this mornin'.  Yup, just this mornin', I received a message from some Christopher guy, wantin' to say hi.

I looked at his profile.

Man doesn't even live with any cats.

MOUSES!

And a couple days ago, some woman was doin' the same!

Don't think she lives with cats, either.

MOUSES!

These catfishers can be problematic, for sure.

But not to me, of course, 'cause I don't fall for their tricks.  I don't even answer!  I just block 'em and run.

Well...

Well I might first mock 'em a bit.  Mock 'em right here on my blog.

'Cause mockin' peeps is kinda what I do.

USUALLY, I stick to mockin' my own peeps; but some of these catfishers, even though I've never met 'em or anythin', are just BEGGIN' to be mocked, to be sure.

AND WHO AM I TO REFUSE THEIR REQUESTS TO BE MOCKED?

Bwahahahahahahhaha...

MOUSES!

I know, I know...  I know what you're thinkin'.  You're thinkin' that with a handsome and angelic face such as mine, I'm pretty irresistible AND IT'S NO WONDER these peeps are wantin' to say hello.  They just wanna get to know me.  Say they've rubbed shoulders with Seville from Nerissa's Life.

Yeah, you could very well be right, 'CAUSE I AM irresistible, for sure.

But unless they're plannin' on sendin' me broiled catfish with creamy nip sauce on a platter, they're into the wrong kinda catfishin' for me.

MOUSES!

public service announcement

The followin' is a public service announcement, paid for by...

By uh...

Hmmm...

Hey Peepers!  You willin' to toss a few toonies my way to pay for this here pubic service announcement, I'm makin'?

No?

Hmph.

MOUSES!

Well how 'bout one tooney, then?

A looney?

Maybe a quarter or two?

Still no?  Still?

Well then, uh...

I know!  A few treats.  I'm sure you can spare a few treats.  Bonus treats, we'll call 'em

What do you MEAN you just gave me treats?  What do you MEAN?

Oh yeah.

MOUSES!

Er-hmm.  The followin' is a public service announcement.  APPARENTLY, it's totally free.

Paid for by no one but me.

MOUSES!

And now for the announcement:  Okay kitties out there.  Kitties and doggies and ferrets and anyone else to whom this might pertain.  Do you have a fan page on Facebook?  You do?  Well if so, please be aware there are scammers out to get us four-legged social media stars.  Scammers like the "Restricted Account Information" and the "Business Account Maintenance Standards" pages.  These are NOT real pages, my friends.  They're fake.  Fake as fake can be.  Fake as the diamonds on a burlesque dancer's short dress.

NEVER MIND HOW I KNOW 'BOUT BURLESQUE DANCERS' ATTIRE.

MOUSES!

But back to the business at paw.  These SCAMMERS are taggin' hundreds of pages, pretendin' to represent Facebook and/or META security and whatnot.  They tag you in a post and say that if you don't click on the link they provide within 24 hours or five days or the like, you'll lose all access to your fan page.

Whatever you do, DO NOT CLICK.

Now I don't actually know what will happen if you do click on their links 'cause I never have, but rest assured, IT'S GONNA BE BAD.

MOUSES!

Instead of clickin' on their links, report 'em and block 'em.   Report and block.  REPORT and BLOCK.  That's the best thing to do.

Report 'em!

BLOCK 'EM!

Do what I say AND do what I do.

MOUSES!

This mornin', I awoke to a notification from one of these scammers who had tagged my fan page.  Another notification.  The THIRD one in less than three weeks!  And I'm sick and tired of this nonsense.  Sick and tired, to be sure.

So remember, my pals, if your fan page gets tagged by one of these scammers, you know what to do: REPORT 'em and BLOCK 'em and if you happen to find their actual address...

Well...

Well used kitty litter makes a wonderful gift.

Really WELL used kitty litter, that is.

misplaced aggression

Hey Saffy, what's up?  You're lookin' a little olive 'round the gills.

It's an expression, my man.  It's just an expression.  I'm not sayin' your charcoal grey furs have suddenly turned green.  Just means you look like you're feelin' unwell.

Well yes, the expression usually is green around the gills, but I'm tryin' to expand my vocabulary, you see.

MOUSES!

So anyway...  What's up?

Uh-huh.  Uh-huh.  Interestin'.  Hmmm...

So you definitely heard her usin' the term misplaced aggression, huh?  You're sure that was the term?

THEN WHAT ON EARTH DID YOU DO?

MOUSES!

Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh.  Uh-huh.  Again, interestin'.  Very interestin', indeed.  Hmmm....

And you're sure you did nothin' at all.  You're sure you didn't lash out at her or anythin' like that?  You're sure you weren't upset with someone else and decided to take it out on the peep?  You're absolutely positively really and truly sure?

You are sure, you say.  Well not to worry, Saffy, my man.  I know the peep and I know her very well.  Peepers never holds cases of misplaced aggression against us cats.  Never!

Believe me, I know.

MOUSES!

SHE SAID WHAT?

ARE YOU SURE?

You're sure you heard Peepers say that if it happened again, she would put a stop to it, herself?

YOU'RE REALLY SURE?

And uh...  Ummm...  Well exactly how was she gonna put a stop to this case of misplaced aggression of yours?  I mean, you've already been neutered.  There's not much else she can do.

MOUSES!

SHE SAID WHAT?

Oh.

Wait a minute, ol' brother of mine.  Methinks you've got your tail in a twist, all for nothin'.  I don't think Peepers was talking 'bout you, at all.

BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE ANY SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS, Saffy, my man.  Peepers can't unfriend you or block you or anythin' like that in an attempt to put a stop to any outlandish and outrageous comments you make, on account of your not bein' on Facebook or Twitter to say stupid stuff in the first place.

I, other the paw, have to be super careful, for sure.  What with my blog and my fan page on Facebook, and all; not to mention my account over on Twitter.  Yup, I have to be super careful of what I say all the time, which is why...

Which is why I NEVER post stuff when I'm nipped.

MOUSES!

I once knew this cat who used to get nipped all the time before takin' to the keys, postin' all kinds of naughty stuff.  It was not a pretty sight, to be sure.

What did he say, you ask?  What did he SAY?

I have no idea, to tell you the truth.  What I meant was, it wasn't a pretty sight to see.  He once posted this picture of himself all nipped up like no cat has ever been nippered before.  His tongue was hangin' out and lollin' about; and there was drool drippin' down from his dewlaps.

Dewlaps.  You know, means jowls.  Like I said, I'm tryin' to expand my vocabulary, you see.

MOUSES!

But my point is, Saffron, that cat lay there lookin' just like a dog.

Not a pretty sight, at all.

'twas I

It was me.

Or should that be I...

Hmmm...  I know!  *snaps claws*  'TWAS I.

I like that.  Yup, I like that a lot.  Makes me sound all super smart and stuff, it does.

'TWAS I!

MOUSES!

Hey Peepers!  If Zuckerberg calls back, tell him I'm not in, would ya?

What do MEAN he's on the other line?  What do you MEAN?

Oh for mousin' out loud.

MOUSES!

Hey Marky!  Marky Baby, how have you been?

Yeah, I know we were just talkin' a few minutes ago.  Don't know how we got disconnected.  Must have been a bad line...

Or maybe my paw accidentally slipped causin' me to hang up.

MOUSES!

So Marky Baby...  Where were we, huh?

Oh yeah.

Uh-huh, uh-huh...

Yeah, yeah, millions of users...  No, HUNDREDS of millions, you say.

Figures.

MOUSES!

So um...  So how come you're callin' me?

Yeah, I KNOW I accepted responsibility for the mass Facebook outage the other day.  But in my own defense...

Umm...

Well that was just somethin' I said over on Twitter.

Well OF COURSE I didn't admit to bein' responsible on Facebook.  Facebook was down, remember?  I couldn't log on.

Sometimes it's hard to believe this guy is actually in charge over there.

MOUSES!

So like I said, how come you're callin' me?

Again.

MOUSES!

Uh-huh, uh-huh...  Yeah, you already mentioned the hundreds of millions of users who were impacted.  All 'round the globe...  Yeah, yeah, in practically every country....  Okay, I've got it now, Marky-poo.  Lots of people were upset, and they're all complainin' to you, and...

But...  But again, I've gotta ask: how come you're callin' ME?

Oh.

You did, huh?  You actually DID trace that ol' outage back to me?

Hmmm...

Well...

Well...

Well have you looked at Facebook lately, Zuckerberg, my man?  I mean, have you actually REALLY LOOKED?  REALLY AND TRULY LOOKED?  Like looked long and hard?  'Cause if you have, you'll notice there are a whole lotta cats over on Facebook usin' it every single day.  Every single hour.  Every minute, in fact!  We cats have got fan pages and profiles and memes all about us, and...

And...

And cats have a way of makin' mischief, you see.  A slip of the paw here...  A flick of the tail there...  Some loose fur drifts down into the computer and gets into where it shouldn't be gettin', and...

BAMM!

So it's like this, Marky, my man: You've gotta make Facebook cat-proof, you see.  You've gotta make your product able to handle the antics of us cats!

EVERY THINK ABOUT THAT?

It's no wonder they're all upset at you.

the dark side

Well that's rude.

MOUSES!

*furiously types an even ruder response*

TAKE THAT, YOU LILY-LIVERED, WART-INFESTED, ROTTEN FISH BREATH STINKIN' TROLL.

MOUSES!

*sits back with satisfaction and waits for a reply*

You ever notice?  You ever notice, my friends, how some peeps out there have nothin' better to do than troll around on social media makin' rude and ugly comments, and...

WHA???  What the mouses?  He said WHAT???  Well I'll show him.  I'll tell him where to go.  I'll...

I'll...

I'LL...

I'll tell him his mama wears combat boots.  NO, I'LL TELL HIM his mama WOULD wear combat boots if her mug wasn't as ugly as his, and...

No, that's mean.  That's mean for his mama, I mean.  Besides, I have no idea what she looks like.  His mama might be the most beautiful woman on earth for all I know.

On the other paw...

On the other paw, she might, in fact, look exactly like him.

MOUSES!

I shall be the bigger cat, and I shall leave his mama out of this debate.

Debate?  More like WAR.

MOUSES!

LISTEN HERE, YOU FLEA-INFESTED SCUMBAG OF THE SLIMIEST SCUM THAT EVER OOZED OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THAT OL' PRIMORDIAL ROCK, YOU MAKE ONE MORE COMMENT LIKE THAT LAST ONE, AND I'M GONNA MAKE YOU REGRET EVER LEARNIN' HOW TO TYPE.

MOUSES!

Peeps.  They think they're a match for a cat.

What's this now?  *jaw drops*  He's callin' my peep - MY PEEPERS - A WHAT?  Of all the nerve.  I left his mama out of my comments.  The least he can do is leave out my peep.

Although he is kinda right about the peep's hair.

BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT.  The point is, this fight is between me and him, and he has no business insultin' my peep.

Even if her hair does sometimes look like she went and stuck her finger in an electrical outlet.

MOUSES!

"Seville, what are you doing with my Facebook account?"

Defendin' your honour, Peepers.  You can thank me later.

MOUSES!

What's he sayin' now?  Is he still trollin' around insultin' my peep?

Hmmm...

HMMM...

Looks like he's given up for a bit.  Must have realised he was no match for me, Seville the Cat, THE KEYBOARD WARRIOR OF THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY.

"Seville!  Remove that picture right now.  It's disgusting!"

But I...  I was just...  I was just catsplainin' to this idiot how things actually work in this world, and how he's as stupid as the mother of all stupid rocks.  He's not very bright, you see, and he needs the added visual aids.  THUS, the picture of what I left in the ol' litter box this mornin', after eatin' that brick of stinky ol' cheese.

"So you're in an on-line fight with a troll."

Uh-huh.

"Using MY Facebook account?"

Uh-huh.

"And exactly what makes your behaviour any different from that of the troll?  Why is he a troll but you're not, even though you're BOTH behaving in the very same manner?"

*rolls eyes*  Because I'm a cat, Peepers.  Cats can't be trolls.  FACT.  Plus...

Plus, look what he wrote about you, right here.  See how he described your....

"He said WHAT about my hair???  And he had the nerve to say I wear a mask not out of care and concern for others during a pandemic, but rather to prevent people from turning to stone after looking at my face?  And then he said I...???  SHOVE OVER, SEVILLE.  Your peep has some typing to do."

*grins from ear to ear*

Welcome to the dark side, my peep.

dweebs versus nincompoops

I sat back on my haunches, narrowed my eyes, and looked at the peep.  "You're a bit of a dweeb Peepers, aren't you?"

"Excuse me?"

"I said, YOU'RE A BIT OF A DWEEB, and apparently a hard-of-hearing one, at that.  MOUSES!"

"Do you even know what a dweeb is, Seville?"

"Of course I do.  Don't be so ridiculous Peepers.  It's uh..  Um...  Hmm...  Be right back.  MOUSES!"

Several minutes later...

"Okay, so maybe you're not a dweeb after all.  Shame though.  Dweeb sounded like a really good word to use to describe you.  It had a good ring to it, you see.  I liked how it sounded to my ears.  Hello my friends, this here is Peep #1.  She's a real dweeb.  Or uh, Would you like to meet my dweeb?  You know, that sorta thing.  MOUSES!"

I noticed the peep rolling her eyes at me.

"Don't you roll your eyes at me, Peepers.  Not my fault you're a nincompoop."

"What?"

"Nincompoop.  It means a stupid or foolish..."

"I know what it means, Seville.  The question is, why are you calling me one?"

"Because APPARENTLY the term nincompoop suits you better than dweeb.  DUH."

Again the peep rolled her eyes and this time the eye roll was accompanied with a hands in the air kinda gesture, along with a shrugging of the shoulders.

"Look Peepers, it's like this: as the author of an upcoming - sure to be best selling - book, I think it would be prudent for me to expand my vocabulary.  You know, find new and inventive ways to describe run-of-the-mill, ordinary things like uh...  Well...  YOU.  I can't constantly refer to you in my book as the peep, or my peep, or Peepers.  I need a few new names for you.  Pet names.  Names like...  Well I was gonna use dweeb but nincompoop seems to be a more accurate description, so..."

"Seville, I'm not sure I want to be in your book."

My jaw dropped.  "WHA???"

"I said," and the peep narrowed her eyes while slapping a stupid-looking kinda grin on her face, "I'm not sure I WANT to be in your book.  What do you think about that?"

"Not much.  MOUSES!"

I glared at the peep.  The peep glared back at me.  We sat there for the next five minutes, the peep and I, glaring at one another like we were havin' a glaring contest with neither one of us willing to concede.  A mosquito flew past my nose.  I gave it a swat, accidentally breaking eye contact with the peep and losing the impromptu contest.  Stupid mosquito.  MOUSES!

"Well the fact is, Peepers, you're in the book whether you wanna be or not.  I'm almost finished writing it so you can't change your mind now.  It's way too late in the game to think about backing out when..."

"It's not like you asked my permission to include me in the book in the first place."

"Well...  Well no.  No, I didn't.  But that's totally irrelevant to the situation."

"Oh?  How so?

"Because I say so.  Oh, don't look at me like that, Peepers.  It's not like you didn't know all along that you'd be included in my book.  I mean...  I mean....  Well, I need SOMEONE to mock in the book!  And mocking you is pretty much what I do on my blog twice a week, so uh...  So if you weren't such a nincompoop, you would have figured it out for yourself that there'd be a wee bit of peep mocking in my literary masterpiece, and..."

Peepers turned to leave the room.

"Oh come on, Peepers.  It's not like I've written you in for comic relief."

"Why don't I believe you?"

I shrugged.  "I dunno.  But the fact is, I don't need you for comic relief.  I have fur-sibs for that.  MOUSES!"

********************

And just for fun - and 'cause it wouldn't be fair for me to mention my book without my sharin' a little somethin' from it - here's another excerpt.  Enjoy!  purrs

“So whatcha doing’ there, Petey?”  I hopped onto the desk next to the computer Peepers and I shared.

You know, the computer I use when writing my cat blog, Nerissa’s Life, and keeping up with my various social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter.  What the peep does with the computer, I have no idea.  It’s not like she has fans all over the world with whom she needs to converse.

I looked sternly at Peter and asked, “Does the peep know you’re using her..  I mean, OUR computer?”

He narrowed his eyes.  “Did I hear you call me, Petey?” he asked.  I thought I detected a note of derision when he repeated the little name I had come up with for him.

“Sure.  Petey.  It’s short for…”  I chuckled.  “I guess it’s not really short for Peter after all.  The two names are actually the same length, but…“  I noticed Peter’s scowl becoming more…  More scowly-like, for lack of a better word, and figured I should probably ixnay the ickinamenay business with an apologetic-sounding, “Whatever.”

Petey…  I mean, Peter, continued to look somewhat displeased.  If he were a cat, my money would be on his starting to growl anytime now.

“So anyway,” I began again, “whatcha doing’?”  I looked at the computer screen and saw he had been reading posts in some Facebook group for Canadians.  Looked like peeps in the group were getting all riled up about something or other.  Politics.  Ugh.  I let out a loud sigh.  Figures.  If I knew one thing about Facebook, it was that peeps were incapable of playing nicely together when they were talking about politics.  MOUSES!

Peter clicked on “home,” and in an instant the screen went from the group he had been participating in, to the general feed.  “What I’m doing is really none of your business, Seville.”

“Oh contraire,” I told him.  “That there computer belongs to me and the peep, so EVERYTHING you do on it is my business.  MOUSES!”

Peter grumbled some nonsense about something nonsensical  - to tell you the truth I wasn’t paying a whole lot of attention - before attempting to click on the little Windows key to shut the computer off.

“Hold on there, Petey," and I placed a paw on his hand.  “Not so fast.”

He glared at me.

“Fine.  PETER, if you insist.  But don’t be so quick to turn off the computer,” and I pushed his hand away from the keyboard.  “I need to use it myself.”

Peter raised an eyebrow, questioningly.

“I do!  I need to work on my blog and stuff.  You know, stuff like checking in with my fans on Facebook and Twitter, and sharing a few dog-shaming photos and funny cat videos.  That sort of thing.”

“Your social media accounts?“ asked Peter.

“Yeah, you heard me.  We cats RULE when it come to social media on the Internet, you know.  If it weren’t for us, Facebook and Twitter wouldn’t even be able to make a living.  MOUSES!“

Peter stood, pushing back his…  I mean, MY chair.  “I’ll be in the kitchen if you need me.”

“Don’t worry, I won’t,” and I waved him off with a paw.  “AND CLOSE THE OFFICE DOOR ON YOUR WAY OUT PLEASE!” I called after him.  “A little peace and quiet in here would be nice.  I need to concentrate on what I‘m doing.  MOUSES!”

the nerve

Oh. My. Mouses.

Of all the nerve.

I can't BELIEVE she did that.

Arrrggggghhhhhh!

MOUSES!

I know, I know...  I know what you're thinkin'.  You're thinkin', what has the peep done now?

Well to be honest, on ANY OTHER given day, your question would be totally valid.

Any other day?  Heck, what am I sayin'?  Any other time of day is more like it, 'cause let me tell you somethin', the peep does moused-up stuff, multiple times, EVERY day of the week.  I know.  I live with her, you see.

MOUSES!

But in this particular case, it is not the peep with whom I am annoyed.

Did I say annoyed?  I MEANT to say, bothered.  And insulted.  And even a little...  Hmmm...  Angry, I do believe.

MOUSES!

So this is what happened to me this past week:

Those of you who follow me on Facebook might be aware of the thoughtless, hurtful, and nasty comment someone left on my fan page.  It was awful.  It made both the peep and me feel really, really horrible, so...

So I replied to said comment, tellin' this person how what she said was not helpful in the least.  How it could serve no purpose but to make my peeps feel sad.

And then, in a second comment...

I corrected her grammar.

Oh, I'm not apologising for that.  Oh no sirree.  It had to be done, you see, because her grammar was atrocious, to say the least.  Bad enough to get her a six by nine foot cell in Grammar Jail, for sure.

MOUSES!

But then I had second thoughts.  I wondered if maybe I should simply delete the comment and ban the woman from my fan page.  That way, neither I nor the peep would ever have to deal with her again, AND she wouldn't be embarrassed by havin' had her grammar corrected by a cat.  'Cause some peeps take offence to that.

MOUSES!

So I went back to the post, and do you know what I found?

NOTHIN'.  Nothin' at all.

MOUSES!

So of course, I figured she had seen the errors of her ways, and taken her comment down.

But then....

But then, I found out through a pal, the comment was still there for all to see.  All but ME.

Do you know what she had done?

SHE. HAD. BLOCKED. ME.

That's right, my friends.  She had blocked ME, Seville the Cat.

MOUSES!

Of all the lousy, good-for-nothin', Poopy Panty PeePs.

MOUSES!

I had been robbed.  ROBBED, I tell you.  Robbed of the opportunity to block that cruel and heartless peep.  There I was, all set to block her, ONLY TO DISCOVER she had blocked ME!

MOUSES!

So...

So I dug in my claws, and...

Yeah, yeah...  Sorry 'bout that, Peepers.  I know I was sittin' on your lap at the time, but I had to dig my claws into SOMETHIN'.

MOUSES!

So anyway...

So anyway, I have her name, rank, and serial...

Okay, so maybe I don't.  Maybe all I actually have is her name, but if she ever comes back, she had best watch out for a certain marmalade cat.

'Cause we marmies, we don't get mad.

OH NO...

We marmalade cats don't get mad at all.

Instead, we much prefer...

To get even.

Seville the Cat here

Hey ho!  Seville the Cat here, bringin' you the most up-to-date news, from rural Nova Scotia.

Hmmm...

Hey ho!  Seville the Cat here, bringin' you MY VERSION of the most up-to-date news, from rural Nova Scotia.

Hmmm....

Hey ho!  Seville the Cat here, bringin' you a whole bunch of stuff I'm makin' up off the top of my head on account of my not havin' anythin' interestin' to blog about today, from rural Nova Scotia.

BETTER.  MOUSES!

Sometimes a cat has just gotta do, what a cat has gotta do.  MOUSES!

So as you might have guessed, there has been NOTHIN' interestin' goin' on at my house for the last couple of days.

Well...  Nothin' noteworthy, I guess.  Nothin' worth bloggin' about, for sure.  MOUSES!

On the other paw...

Nope, sorry.  That information was marked private and personal, and the peep said I couldn't go 'round tellin' the whole wide world.  Not even if it was the ONLY real news I had to tell!

But on the OTHER paw, peeps go around tellin' the whole wide world all their private and personal stuff all the time!  Sometimes that stuff is so private and so personal, the world DOESN'T EVEN WANNA KNOW, but does that stop those peeps?  No sirree.  It doesn't stop 'em at all.  They just go around blabbin' like there's no tomorrow and...

What?  WHAT?  What's that you're sayin', Peepers?  You're sayin' that under no circumstances am I to tell my readers that my sister Mason was feelin' a little under the weather, and ended up with a bit of a dirty bum?  FINE.  MOUSES!

Oh-oh.

Hmmm...

Pretend you didn't hear 'bout that, okay?

And if you can't pretend you didn't hear it, pretend you didn't hear it from ME.  MOUSES!

So what should I blog about today?

I KNOW!  Hey Peepers!  I need to borrow your flashy box.  I need to take a picture of my din-dins.

What?  WHAT?  What's that you're sayin', Peepers?  You're sayin' that under no circumstances do I need to take a picture of my dinner?

Are you sure about that, Peepers?  'Cause peeps take pictures of their dinners, and post those pictures on the Internet, all the time.  And when I say all the time, I really mean ALL the time.  If it weren't for peeps postin' pictures of their dinners, social media would come to a complete standstill, for sure.

Well...  Pictures of their dinners and cute cat videos, that is.  MOUSES!

So that brings me back to square one on the search for a bloggin' topic for today.

Hmmm...

GOT IT.  Peep #1 planted another two azalea bushes yesterday.

And she RE-planted 'em again this mornin'. MOUSES!

Don't worry, Peepers.  I'll be sure to let my readers know that you didn't replant those two azalea bushes just for the fun of replanting 'em.  'Cause believe you me, I watched you replanting 'em this mornin', and it didn't look like you were havin' any fun, at all.  MOUSES!

Yeah, Yeah...  I'll mention the rockies.  Keep your pants on, woman.

And when I say keep your pants on, I mean KEEP YOUR PANTS ON.  World Naked Gardenin' Day was last weekend, not today.  MOUSES!

So anyway, as you might have guessed, the rocky raccoons were back again and last night, they dug up the two azaleas Peep #1 planted yesterday.  But this time, they just left 'em next to where they had been planted, instead of tryin' to haul 'em off into the jungle and...

What?  WHAT?  What's that you're sayin', Peepers?  You're sayin' that under no circumstances am I tell my readers we live in a jungle?

REALLY?  When was the last time you weeded?  MOUSES!

Hehehehehee...  Okay, perhaps that is a bit of an exaggeration.  Not even a whole bazillion gazillion weeds do a jungle make.  Close, but not quite.  Now a million bazillion gazillion weeds would be a TOTALLY different story, for sure.

HEY PEEPERS!  How come I'm findin' your hair all over my office?  You sheddin' or somethin'?

OR ARE YOU GOIN' BALD?

That's not good, Peepers.  Seriously, that's not good at all.  Take my word for it.  The bald look is not a good look for you 'cause Kojak, you are not, and...

GET A GRIP, WOMAN.  If you don't wanna go bald, just stop pullin' on your hair like that.  Stop yankin' it out!  Didn't anyone ever tell you, yanked out hair might not grow back and like I said, Kojak, you are not, and...

What?  WHAT?

FINE.

MOUSES!

Apparently, accordin' to the peep...

But then what does she know?  I mean, she's just a peep and...

What Peepers?

FINE.

MOUSES!

APPARENTLY, accordin' to the peep - while bearing in mind she is just a peep - she's pullin' her hair out on account of my blog post today, and SHE SAYS, since today is Mother's Day, I should go easy on her and give her break.

I guess I could do that.

It IS Mother's Day and all.

And she IS kinda my mother, even though we don't look at all alike.  You know, on account of my bein' way cuter.  Plus, I'm a redhead.  And then there's that whole business of the tail.

My tail.  I'M the one with the tail.  The peep doesn't have a tail.  Not one I've noticed, at least.

I guess I COULD give her a break...

But don't worry friends, I'll be back in FULL FORCE on Wednesday.  Ol' Peepers here can yank out the remainin' hair on her head, then.   MOUSES!

on-line etiquette

OH.  MY.  MOUSES.   MOUSES!

Blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah, blah blah, blah blah. And your point?

MY POINT WAS NOT...

Yes it was.

No it wasn't.

Yes it was.

No it wasn't.

Yes it was.

No it wasn't.

Yes it was.

No it wasn't.

                                  *************************************

FIVE.  HOURS.  LATER.  MOUSES!

Yes it was.

No it wasn't.

Yes it was.

OH MY MOUSES!   IT REALLY WASN'T.  MY POINT REALLY WASN'T THAT AT ALL.  I NEVER EVEN MENTIONED THAT BUT LET ME TELL YOU, I NOW HAVE A TOTALLY NEW POINT TO MAKE.  MOUSES!

                                  *************************************

Okay, so truth be told, the above Facebook conversation(s) actually ended after the very first yes it was, but that was only because Peep #1 had the good sense to walk away.  As for that other guy, I'm pretty sure he's still waiting to say, "YES IT WAS!"  You know, 'cause that's what guys like that say.  MOUSES!

Let me explain from the beginning.

This morning, Peep #1 made a comment on a friend's timeline and before she knew it, some guy she didn't even know was taggin' her and puttin' words in her mouth...

I mean that figuratively, of course.  There were no actual words bein' stuffed in the peep's mouth.

...and tellin' her what her point was, even though that was never her point at all, and she never even mentioned the stuff he was talking about and... and... and everything!  Can you believe it?  MOUSES!

But like I said, the peep had the good sense to simply walk away.  Yup, 'cause that's what you have to do in cases like this.  Just walk away.  MOUSES!

Of course, as a cat, I've never walked away from a fight in my life.  No sirree, I never walk away.  I give 'em the smacky paws, THEN RUN LIKE THE DICKENS.

I am, of course, not referring to Charles Dickens.  I have no idea whether he was a fast runner or not.

But being a cat who is not shy of smacky-pawing those who deserve a good smacky-paw, I took it upon myself to help out my peep.  Of course, smacky-pawing this guy on Facebook was never really an option on account of neither the peep nor I knowing where he lives - or how quickly he can run - so I decided to do a figurative smacky-pawing, for sure.

Well...  Best I could come up with was to report about the situation right here on my blog. MOUSES!

Now that that's done...

But I do want to add how VERY PROUD I am of Peep #1 to follow proper on-line etiquette and simply walk away, without continuing an argument on her pal's timeline, because even when you're right about something, picking fights on other peoples' timelines is just plain ol' rude, you know?  Of course you do.  MOUSES!

Had the peep not walked away, one thing might have led to another and then before anyone knew it, they'd be whippin' out their tails to see whose was the longest and...

GOTCHA!  HA-HA!  Peep #1 doesn't have a tail.  I have no idea 'bout that other guy though. MOUSES!

And thank goodness no one said what I was thinkin' one of 'em might say...

I know you are, but what am I?

Thankfully, nobody said that.  That would have been pretty childish, for sure.  MOUSES!

Peep #1 said instead, "He may be a friend of a friend, but he's definitely no friend of mine.  MOUSES!"

Yup, she said the mouses part and everything.

So that's what happened here at my house this morning.  I'm hoping we never hear back from that guy from Facebook again but if we do, I shall introduce Peep #1 to my pal, the delete and block manoeuvre.  The delete and block manoeuvre is a great manoeuvre, for sure.  MOUSES!

dropping like flies

OH.  MY.  MOUSES.

Where are they finding these peeps? MOUSES!

And another one bites the dust.  And another.  AND ANOTHER!  They're dropping like flies, my friends.  DROPPING LIKE FLIES!

Um no, I'm not actually talking about flies. Not talking about fleas, either.  I'm talking about political candidates in Canada's upcoming Federal election although, when you think about it, there very well might be a comparison to be made...

MOUSES!

So this one said this and that one said that and then there was the guy who thought it appropriate to be peeing in someone else's coffee mug in someone else's kitchen before giving it a little swish of water to kind of rinse it out and then putting it back in the sink.

Need I say it again?  Of course I do.  MOUSES!

Makes a kitty wonder what has become of this world.  When I was a kitten, stuff like this never used to happen.  Or at least, we never heard about it.  And we certainly didn't have to watch it on TV.  MOUSES!

But it does make for pretty good entertainment.

You know what part I liked the best?  I liked listening to the political commentator who tried to defend the guy who peed in someone else's coffee mug.  That gave me a chuckle, for sure.

Who here can say they've never relieved themselves...

Uh, ME.  I can most certainly say I have never relieved myself in someone else's coffee mug, in someone else's kitchen.  My gosh, I've never even relieved myself in my coffee mug, in my very own kitchen and I'm betting my peeps can say the same.  Who here can't?  MOUSES!

Oh my, I'm killing myself here.  I'm laughing so hard, I can barely type.  MOUSES!

Oops!  I need to watch my words.  I probably shouldn't have used the word barely because the next thing I know, one of these candidates is gonna be showing up in a tweet or a post or something, bare naked.  MOUSES!

My oh my oh my...  Hehehehee...

But there is a serious side to all of this, my friends.  A very serious side, indeed.

Word on the street is that if you want to have any kind of political career here in Canada, you need to watch what you do and say on social media.  That stuff can come back to haunt you, for sure. Tweets from way back when can be dredged up by your political foes.  Dredged up like the slime and ooze they find when dredging a river.  It's stinky stuff, for sure.  Stinky enough to make your allies run for the hills.  After all, they don't want to have your stink all over them.  MOUSES!

And that's what has been happening up here in Canada, the last little while.  Potential candidates made the mistake of saying stuff they shouldn't have said on various social media platforms.  Now, years later, those tweets and posts have been dug up and put on display and an awful lot of them, have caused said candidates to be dropped like hot potatoes by the political parties with which they were affiliated.

I'm telling you, it has been happening so much, it's hard to keep track.  Every week...  MOUSES!

I am told there are lessons to learn from this here political nest of snakes.

Lesson number one is for the candidates.  Potential political candidates need to watch what they say on social media.  Remember, these platforms are public so if you don't want the public reading about stuff they shouldn't be reading, don't post it!

Lesson number two is for the parties.  Political parities need to do a much better job of vetting their candidates.  As one journalist so aptly asked, if opponents can find this stuff, why can't the people vetting the candidates in the first place, find it, too? It's a good question, for sure.

Of course, the more social media savvy one is, the more stuff one has put out there for all the world to see.  Being a rather social media active kitty myself, I have to say it would be pretty darned tooting hard for me to go back to my very first tweets and posts and check them all out.  To be honest, I'm not sure I could do it.  THERE ARE SO MANY!  But if someone else is able to go back through them all...  Well if they can, I must, too.

But as I'm not running for political office, that is neither here nor there.  Someone goes back through all my social media stuff and all they'll find is a slight overuse of the word slash expression, MOUSES!, more than a few run-on sentences and an aversion to weasels.

Oh and my nip addiction, I suppose.  But as nip is perfectly legal across the land, I'm not worried about my imbibing in a nip mouse or two - or three - at all.  MOUSES!

But are these the only lessons to be learned?  Are these, two, the only ones?  Are the lessons at paw for only those who want to represent us in our capital and those who want to help them get there?

THEY SURE AS MOUSIN' AREN'T!!!

It seems to me, my friends, that there's a much bigger lesson to be learned from all of this.  A much more important lesson.  And this bigger, more important lesson, is a lesson we all must learn.  Yes, it is a lesson for society, for sure.

The question we must ask ourselves is this.  How in the world have we ended up with so many political candidates who thought they were doing nothing wrong by tweeting and posting disparaging remarks about women, other religions, other races and the police?  People who think nothing about using offensive language and publicly posting about drugs and sex?  I mean, when did stuff like this become the norm?   WHEN???

Okay, maybe it kind of is the norm for some but should it be the norm for those who are supposed to be of good enough character to represent us in our nation's capital?  MOUSES!

Is it normal to go around peeing in other people's coffee mugs in other people's kitchens?  OF COURSE IT ISN'T!

My gosh, I'm embarrassed if I accidentally pee outside of the litter box.  And that time I peed on the peep?  I've NEVER heard the end of that.  And I only did it the once and only because I had just had a bout with the crystals so really, it was due to medical reasons and not poor judgement on my part.  MOUSES!

Now to be perfectly honest, we would never have known about the peeing in the coffee mug incident had said fellow not had the misfortune to have it all caught on tape but....

BUT HE SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN DOING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!  Someone could have used that mug after he peed in it.  Used it for coffee!  Believe you me, that someone would not have been wanting to do that, for sure.  No one would.  What a complete lack of respect for his fellow human... MOUSES!

Maybe the most important lesson of all is this.  If we, as a society, want people who are of good character and judgement to represent us in our nation's capital, we need to be of equally good character and judgement, ourselves. After all, these politicians will not only represent us but will be representative of us, too.

If we don't want peeps representing us who are disrespectful to others, we need to stop associating with those who are.  Stop associating with them and not nominating them as candidates.  If we don't want peeps representing us to use a lot of explicitly sexual or violent language, we need to walk away.  Walk away and not nominate them as a candidate.  We need to make it clear that such behaviour is unacceptable in any and all forums and not just on social media.

So much blame for this gigantic fiasco has been placed on social media but in my opinion, that's simply not fair.  Although social media platforms do provide a certain amount of anonymity and there is certainly a case to be made that peeps will say some things there they normally wouldn't say in like...  School.  Or church.  Or at the dinner table;  I'm betting these peeps have said equally repugnant things before.  After all, they didn't learn to speak on social media.  No, they learned how to speak long before that and there are always patterns to be found.  Patterns of indiscretions and such.  MOUSES!

If we want peeps of good character and judgement to represent us as a society we, as a society, need to surround ourselves with such peeps in everyday life.  That, my friends, is the REAL lesson to be learned from all of this.  The real lesson, for sure.

And if that's not possible, I suggest you all let cats rule the country.  We're always of the best of character.  We have the very best judgement.  We never lie.  We may sometimes growl a little or cry MOUSES! - a lot - but never use any really offensive language.  We don't pick fights on social media although many do say, cats do RULE the Internet.  But as Internet rulers, we use it for good and not evil.  Almost every Internet savvy cat I know has at some point used social media to help save the lives of their fellow cats, not to mention many other creatures and the planet, itself.  Basically speaking, we're already what political peeps should aspire to be.  So if you can't find any peeps to fill the job, I know more than a few cats who are willing and able.  MOUSES!
