whew!

Hello there my friends.  Seville the Cat here, once again comin' to you LIVE from the beautiful province of Nova Scotia.  This time, AFTER the arrival of Dorian.

MOUSES!

So as many of you probably heard, we had a bit of a weather event here in Atlantic Canada, over the weekend.  A bit of an event called...

Duh-duh-duh-DUH...

DORIAN.

MOUSES!

That ol' hurricane came at us with all she had, but when it came right down to it, we Canadian kitties were up to the task, for sure, and we...

Well personally, I hid under the pink chair in the family room for most of the night, but that is neither here nor there.

MOUSES!

So the good news is: we have power and Internet, and no trees fell on our house.

The bad news is: phones are out.

But since I, Seville the Cat, communicate with my pals usin' the Internet more than I do the phone...

WHO CARES?

MOUSES!

What's that?  What's that, Peepers?  What's that you're babblin' on about now?

Oh.

Okay, so the peep says she cares but hey, unless she was plannin' on usin' the phone to order me up some snacks, PURRsonally, I don't.

MOUSES!

Now as a cat, my immediate surroundings are of the most importance to me - OF COURSE - but as a cat reportin' on the news, I would be remiss in not mentioning that other parts of the province did not fair as well as ours.  Trees were knocked down, blockin' roads and crushing roofs of houses; some houses lost their roofs entirely; and I know I saw at least one boat house that was totally washed away.

MOUSES!

But do you know what, my friends?  DO YOU KNOW WHAT?

Maritimers are pullin' together, gettin' the cleanin' up part of the hurricane done.  The military is here helpin' the utility companies, along with peeps who deal with fallin' down trees for a livin'; and the police and volunteer firefighters are workin' hard as well.  They're ALL TOGETHER, WORKIN' PAW IN PAW, AND THEY'RE GETTIN' THE JOB DONE.

MOUSES!

And it's not just them.  Other peeps, ordinary normal folks like you and me...

Okay, so maybe not like me, as I am a world-famous blogging kitty cat, but..

Well folks like my peeps.

Ordinary, normal folks like my peeps...

Okay, so maybe not like Peepers, 'cause although she IS ordinary NORMAL is not a word anyone has ever used to describe her.

So uh...

So ordinary folks, like my peeps, although probably normal, UNLIKE Peep #1.

Yeah, that works.

MOUSES!

So anyway, what I'm tryin' to say is...

Peeps are out on the streets as I speak, helpin' their neighbours whom they may or may not have known prior to the storm.  They're setting up comfort centres where peeps still without power can go for hot food and showers and a little company.  Some peeps are drivin' around neighbourhoods with portable generators, helping to keep the freezers of multiple households, frozen.  Instead of worryin' about anything they've lost, peeps are thankful for what they still have, and usin' what they have to help others.

Why, I heard of one family who had power in a neighbourhood that didn't.  They set up a coffee maker at the end of their driveway with bottles of water, tellin' peeps to help themselves to free coffee.

Okay, so as a cat, I don't drink coffee and therefore, I don't really care, but the sentiment was WONDERFUL, nonetheless.

MOUSES!

Dorian may have taken a shot at us here in Atlantic Canada, but do you know what, my friends?

We caught that shot in our paws, first try, like a Blue Jays outfielder stoppin' a home run, and we said to ourselves, right there and right then: NO STORM IS GONNA GET THE BEST OF US.  NO STORM IS GONNA BEAT US TO THE GROUND.  NO STORM IS...

Well I could go on and on and on, my friends, but what I've learned from this WEATHER EVENT is...

THERE'S HOPE FOR MANKIND, YET.

Also, always have an extra nip mouse or two on paw for emergencies.  Hiding under a chair during a hurricane is A WHOLE LOT EASIER on the nerves, when you're nipped.

MOUSES!

  11. Glad you made it through the storm safely. Dorian was here before heading up your way, but thankfully we got away with almost no damage right around here. We did get a boatload of tornado warnings, though.
