windows to the world

Windows.  Windows are such wonderful things.  For indoor kitties windows are, quite literally, their window to the world.  A vantage point, from which to see the great outdoors, filled with birdies and butterflies and whatnot.  From a good perch inside, indoor kitties can look out their windows and see wonderful, MARVELLOUS critters of all sorts.  I, myself, have been known to watch a little Bird TV.  You've heard of the Crow Show which appears daily in my backyard?

I am not strictly an indoor cat.  I have a house and all and I always sleep inside at night - something which a sibling or two of mine have been known to do otherwise but I won't name names...  at least not today.  But I digress. My point is, I go outside, too.  After all, I was a feral kitty so I was born outside.  But even though I go outside, I still have a wonderful appreciation of what are called windows.

It's amazing what we can see through windows.  Quite often, I'll sit at a window and watch the world go by outside.  From the big window in the peep's office, I can see all sorts of worldly things pass by.  Every day, I see birds fly by, peeps walk by and cars drive by.  They all seem to have places to go...  things to do...  stuff like that.

My peeps aren't that good about keeping my windows all sparkly clean.  Normally, I would object to such incompetence but in the case of windows, it can be beneficial.  Yes, a not-so-perfectly-clean window hides those of who are watching from behind the scenes.  In times like these, the watchees don't know the watchers are watching.

Many of you will remember about the man in the hat?  You know, the one with big old branch?  Well, he was not the last to fall victim to my watching.  Let me tell you about what happened the other day.

So, I'm sitting at the computer working on my blog when I sense something is amiss.  I look up and out through the window and what do I see?  No, not the man in the hat with another branch but rather, another person.  A totally different one.  This one was female.  She had no branch however, she did have two dogs in tow.  I've never seen this one before...  or her dogs...  little yapper types.  I thought to myself, what's this now?

Well, the woman with the yappers starts coming down my driveway.  She had a very determined walk and looked like she was coming to my front door and I hoped to goodness the peep would go answer 'cause really, I was busy working on my blog - don't like a lot of disruptions, you know - but a few feet in she stopped, turned and stared.  Yes...  stared.  She was staring at my primroses in my primrose garden.  Hmmph!  Then, as abruptly as she arrived, she turned and left!  Actually, she looked a little huffy.  I could be wrong but...  no...  she definitely looked huffy.  Don't know why.  It's not like she knew I was watching her or anything.

You know, I'm not sure how I feel about this.  That's my garden...  my private space...  I already HAVE to share it with eleven other cats and two peeps!  Isn't that enough?  Am I expected to share it with the whole world?  And their yappers, too?  The peep says I should be pleased that the woman with the yappers was admiring my garden.  She says it's a compliment.  I say, she should have asked.  She could have asked.  She didn't ask.  I think she should have.  Hmmph!  PEEPS!

  1. Oh Nerissa, that is kind of scary. Hope your peep knew who the woman was. We are all feral cats too and come and go in the house. Take care.

    1. No, the peep had no idea who she was but I wasn't scared 'cause I was on the OTHER side of the windows. Windows are a great invention, I think.

    1. No... she didn't leave any treats. But do you know what? I should set up a stand or something down by my primrose garden. Piece of silver for a peek? Wonder if the peep would man it for me...

  7. That is an amazing garden. Too bad that lady didn't ask. There are really 11 cats there? Have you ever done a post introducing them all?

  8. Such a beautiful garden, surely more humans will come by to look at it. I'm thinking it'd be good to put up a sign, "No looking"...

  14. Yeowsie what a garden! I would like to wander in that I suppose. I am indoor, even though I suspect I spent a lot of time out 'cuz I was dropped at the county shelter and I am pretty scared of most peeps. Anyways, now, I never even am interested in the doors that my Mom and Dad go in and out of...guess I got cured...but I still would visit your garden

  15. Oh Nerissa!! You are quite the philosophical kitty!!!! You need to share the beauty in life sometimes and not keep it all to yourself.

If the woman seemed huffy she was probably just jealous of your flowers. She did seem to appreciate them though!

  16. Oh they are very pretty flowers....maybe that lady is frustrated she can't grow pretty flowers.....maybe she doesn't have what humans call, a green thumb........our Mommy doesn't......but, despite her normal color thumb, our plants somehow survive! It's probably because a farmer sprays fertilizer on the property above us and it trickles onto our plants roots........thank goodness! She does a great job feeding the birds so we can watch our bird tv=^Y^=

  17. I think the lady with the yappers should have asked. And then you could guide her through your lovely garden but ask her to leave her yappers at home :)

  18. Sounds to me like you had THREE unwelcome trespassers in your garden! If she wanted to admire it, she and her dogs should have sent in a request and gotten a passport.

  19. Your garden is gorgeous! We hope the next time you went out, you sniffed efurrywhere the huffy lady and yappers had been and left your stink there!

  20. Your garden is truly beautiful. If I had that garden, I think I would sit in it as often as I could.

    Have a great day.

  21. I'm a huge window fan myself...I also was a feral (although brought to a shelter as a tiny baby) and feel drawn to the outdoors. Your garden is SPECTACULAR Nerissa! Mom can't grow primroses in our hard clay but she sure wishes she could - yours are beautiful!!!! That lady with the yappers probably just couldn't believe how beautiful the flowers were and wanted to see them up close....can't blame her!

    1. Sammy, if you & your mom like primroses, maybe all is not lost. Where my peep planted my polyanthus (the ones in the pictures), it was just yucky old scrub. Pretty much useless stuff. Apparently, when the previous owners of the house paved the driveway, they pushed all the old gravel there. There was like NO top soil whatsoever. But a really nice neighbour gave my peep all the bags of leaves they had raked up in the fall and the peep emptied them all out into this area. There were over seventy! Then she added some organic fertilizer and voila! She just popped the primroses in amongst the leaves, adding a little well-composted sheep manure to each hole.

  24. Hello lovely Nerissa!! Me and Charlie caught one of our neighbours coming right up to our front door to sniff the geraniums we planted in pots just by our doorway! She gave us a fright - as all we saw was this silhouette bending low!

Awwww we think you have a pretty garden with beautiful blooms! Yay for windows too - they give a view of the great outdoors safely! Enjoy! Take care

  25. Your flowers ARE very beautiful, and maybe the lady was tempted by their gloriousness, and MAYBE she just couldn't help herself, and maybe it was all fine....BUT those yappers better not have, you know, done what doggehs sometimes do in gardens. Ohhh noooooo! Ha ha ha! I think YOU should go out there and leave them something to smell next time, besides the flowers ;-)

  26. Absolutely gorgeous, Nerissa!!! We don't have the luxury of a beautiful garden with flowers like that. We live in a townhouse in downtown Minneapolis. But we have LOTS of big windows, LOTS of trees, and LOTS of squirrels playing in the trees. So I guess it's not so bad. Glogirly thinks your flowers are BEAUTIFUL though!

  29. We spend most of our waking hours lookin out windows (well, when not eatin or playing with all the tossed toys TBT keeps in his pockets). TBT swears that THIS year, he will get the patio or deck screened so we can sit outside an enjoy the sounds and smells.

    1. I'll pass that along but... you should see how many BAD pictures she takes. And we're talking REALLY bad. You know what they say... if you throw enough spaghetti on the wall, some of it will stick. Well, apparently, if you take hundreds and hundreds and HUNDREDS of pictures, you might just get a good one. Odds are...

  32. Mowzers! An intruder! You needs one of those really loud "INTRUDER LERT" sirens to go off - that'd stop those doggies from yapping! Maybe she was miffed at all the yapping and not the garden?
