happened again

Yup, that's right: it happened again.

AGAIN.

MOUSES!

I know, I know...  I know what you're thinkin'.  You're thinkin' Peepers, once again, did somethin' really super duper stupid.

Well...

Well, she probably did, on account of her doin' really stupid stuff ALL THE TIME, but I've sorta given up on keepin' track of all the stupid stuff she is prone to do.  It's just too hard.  There's just too much!

Stupid stuff she does, that is.

MOUSES!

So for today's blog post, I'm not talkin' about any of that.

So what AM I talkin' about, you ask?

Good question!

MOUSES!

What I am talkin' about today is what happened just the OTHER day.  The other day when Saffron was supposed to go to the vet.

You'll notice I said, SUPPOSED.  Supposed to go to the vet.

Yeah, it never happened.

MOUSES!

'Cause about half an hour, maybe more, prior to when Peepers and Saffy Saffron Sassisfras would have to leave the house in order to get to Dr T's office in time, Peepers started lookin' around the house for Saffy.  That took all 'bout a minute.  Saffy was right there in the family room, havin' a little nap.

So EASY PEASY, it should have been.  Easy peasy, for sure.  Cat  was just lyin' there, waitin' to be grabbed and stuffed....

I mean, waitin' to be picked up and gently placed inside the carrier.

Yeah.

Right.

MOUSES!

So the grabbin' part happened, all right.  But the stuffin'...

I mean, gently-placing-inside-the-carrier part, not so much.

MOUSES!

Peepers was well-prepared, though.  Yup, she had the crate up on its end with the door hangin' wide open.  The plan was to feed Saffy into said crate, tail first, and then slam that door shut.

Well!

Well you know what they say about best-laid plans...

THEY OFTEN GO AWRY.

MOUSES!

So there Peepers was, feedin' Saffy into the carrier, butt-end first, when all of a sudden she noticed that Saffron had his tail stuck straight out, preventin' the tail from gettin' tucked in.

And THAT'S when Peepers realised she was gonna have to readjust how she was holdin' him.  But how the mouses could she do that with only two paws?

I mean, hands.

But still, HOW?  She really needed a third arm to stick that tail of his in.

But as Peepers wasn't plannin' on growin' an extra appendage any time soon, she put Saffy on the floor to rearrange her holdin' position, and that was about when...

That was about when...

Well, that was about when Saffy used his super human cat strength to kick himself off the floor, way up into the air, in an attempt to get himself outta there.

But of course, Peepers was still holdin' on.

So that didn't quite work out.

Yet.

Next thing Peepers knew, Saffy was usin' that same super human cat strength to kinda kick back at the peep, usin' her body to launch himself away and out of her arms, before skedaddlin' himself outta the room.

Peepers had to let go.

Probably on account of Saffy's super strong legs bein' attached to paws with super sharp claws.

And yes, Peepers got scratched.

Again.

It's not like it hasn't happened before.

MOUSES!

As you can imagine, I was on the floor laughin' my tail off, watchin' Peepers' and Saffron's little comedy show.  Saffy trottin' past in one direction, with Peepers followin' behind.  Then Saffy trottin' past in another direction, again with Peepers followin' behind.  And then Saffy trottin'...

Well, you get the picture, I am sure.

Went on for at least half an hour!

Until Peepers put a stop to it, got on the phone, and called Dr. T.

So long story short, Saffron hasn't had his visit with the vet.

Yet.

the storm between the storms

'Twas the calm before the storm.

Nope, that can't be right.  First of all, it didn't happen before the storm and secondly, it was anythin' but calm.

MOUSES!

In fact, it was more like mayhem and bodily harm.

MOUSES!

So as you all read on Wednesday, we had that big ol' wind storm, Tuesday.  You know the one.  The one where the wind blew and blew AND BLEW the house right down.

Okay, so it didn't actually blow the house down BUT IT DID blow one of Peepers' mini greenhouses all the way across the yard, not to mention someone's old mattress that had been put out for spring cleanup went flyin' down Main Street.

CLEANUP ON AISLE MAIN!

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

MOUSES!

But anyway...

But anyway, between the blowin' and blowin' and Peepers spottin' the wayward mattress when goin' for mail, Saffron was supposed to go see Dr T for his checkup.

Did you happen to catch that there word I used?  That eight letter word between was and to?  The word, supposed?

Yeah, well...

Well it appears ol' Saffy Saffron Saffers Sassafras - yeah, I call him that, sometimes - has caught on to the ol' crate transportation thing.

MOUSES!

The first time Saffy had to go to the hospital was for his first ever check-up and vaccines.  Peepers picked him up and gave him a little shove; and Saffron practically walked right into that crate.

Silly cat.

The second time Saffy had to go to the hospital was two weeks later, for his big operation.  You know the one.  The snip-snip, as they say.  Now by this time he had kinda cottoned on to the whole crate business and it was a lot harder for Peepers to get him in there.  But she did.  It necessitated that the crate be tipped on its end and hind paws had to go in first but by gosh and by golly, Peepers got him stuffed into that crate.

Not quite so silly cat.

But the third time...

Well the third time Saffy had to go to the hospital was Tuesday, late afternoon.  Like I said before, right between Peepers draggin' her mini greenhouse halfway 'cross the yard back to where it was supposed to be, and her spottin' that ol' mattress that had blown down Main Street.  Dr T wanted to see how well Saffron had healed after the snip-snip, and give him his booster shots, you see.

Needless to say, that appointment didn't happen.

MOUSES!

What did happen is that Peepers tipped the crate on its end and proceeded to put Saffy inside, hind paws first, just like the last time.  But Saffy apparently now knows that if he kicks and kicks and kicks with those hind paws, Peepers can't get him in the crate, no matter how hard she tries.

Saffy also now knows that the claws on those hind paws of his are deadly.  They can slash through skin far deeper than front claws can, and the evidence is right there on Peepers' right arm.  Still.  Yup, they're - and I say THEY're 'cause he scratched her TWICE, you see - healin' but I can still see the marks he made.

Thus, the bit 'bout the bodily harm.

And between the several attempts of gettin' that cat into that crate, there was a whirlwind of activity with Peepers havin' to look under chairs, go down into the basement, and come back up to look under more chairs, on account of Saffron makin' his escape while the peep was busy washin' and bandagin' her wounds.  My gosh, that whirlwind of activity was so...  Uhh...  So windy - wink, wink - it was like we had another little wind storm goin' on right inside our very own house.

MOUSES!

So long story short...

Kinda.  Maybe not.

Long story short, ol' Saffy Saffron Saffers Sassafras did NOT get to see Dr T, Tuesday afternoon.  Peepers is gonna try again NEXT week.

Well, we'll see.

couple things

Couple things I'd like to discuss today on this here blog of mine.  A couple of VERY IMPORTANT things, for sure.

MOUSES!

First of all, yesterday was a big day for ol' Saffy Saffron Saffers Sassafras.  Yesterday was his big adventure.  Yesterday was his...

Well yesterday was the day Saffron got to meet my favourite doctor in the whole wide world: Dr T.

No relation to Mr T, of course, on account of DR T bein' female.

MOUSES!

Yeah, yeah, I know what you're thinkin'.  You're thinkin', ol' Sassafras was supposed to meet Dr T last week, and you know somethin'?  You're right!

Kinda.

Sorta.

Maybe not.

MOUSES!

Yup, Peepers went and put the wrong date on the calendar so Saffron, Peepers, and I all thought the appointment was for last Thursday.  But as it turned out, last Thursday was St. Patrick's Day and not Saffron's doctor's appointment day, at all.  Leave it to the peep to screw things up.

MOUSES!

But anyway...

But anyway, once the calendar stuff was all sorted out, Saffron was all set for his appointment.

Kinda.

Truth is, he didn't know what was happenin' WHICH I KNOW to be a fact on account of Peepers bein' able to pick him up and stuff him in the crate without so much as a meow.  I'm gonna have to have a chat with that brother of mine.  He's gonna need to learn that when Peepers tries to crate us, IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY to give her as hard a time as we can give.  Runnin' downstairs, hidin' under beds, kickin' up a fuss, that sorta thing...  His bein' so cooperative yesterday makes me look bad and we can't have that now, can we.

MOUSES!

But back to Saffy's appointment.  From what I heard, all went well.  Saffron got poked and prodded and all the usual stuff.  Had his temperature taken - bleh - and his heart listened to as it raced a mile a minute on account of his nerves; but he's as fit as a fiddle, I'm told.  Yup, all 4.7kg of him.  One little toofie is a little screwy so that'll be comin' out when he goes in for his neuterin'.  No big deal, they say.  And he got all three of his vaccines so he's safe from diseases and stuff.

Oh, there was something 'bout half of his exam bein' done down on the floor, under the examination table.  He was hidin' under there and didn't wanna come out so Dr T got down on her paws and paws, and examined him there.  Dr T is good 'bout stuff like that.  Why, once she even crawled right into a crate with me!  True story.  Fact.

MOUSES!

But back to Saffy's appoin...

No, wait.  I'm all done talkin' about that.  Now I wanna tell you 'bout the OTHER bit of news I have.

Yesterday, after the doctor's appointment, Saffy and I enjoyed...

THE FIRST CATNIP LEAVES OF THE SEASON!!!

That's right, my friends, Peepers discovered one of my special nip plants growin' out front was comin' back to life after the winter.  It was sproutin' out there and there were leaves unfurlin' and the beautiful aroma of catnip was permeatin' the air....

AHHH....

So Peepers picked a few leaves, and...

THEY WERE ABSOLUTELY, SCRUMPTIOUSLY DELICIOUS.

Better than that fairy I ate last Thursday, for sure.

It was all grizzle.
