heads-up

Hey Peepers!  Just givin' you a heads-up: you've got a bunch of stuff lyin' on the floor in your closet.

MOUSES!

And FYI, it has NOTHIN' to do with me.

I don't think.

MOUSES!

No.  No...  No, definitely not me.  I had absolutely nothin' to do with all the stuff lyin' on the floor in your closet.  Nothin' at all.  Nothin' in the least.  Nothin', as in...

Well...

Nothin'.

MOUSES!

Okay, so I MIGHT have had a wee little somethin' to do with it.

Not my fault Saffy took my advice.

MOUSES!

What?  What's that, Peepers?  What's that you're babblin' on about now?

You wanna know what advice I gave Saffy?

Well...

Nothin'.  Nothin' at all.  Nothin' as in nothin', I say.  NOTHIN'!  I gave Saffy absolutely no advice.

Least not on purpose, that is.

MOUSES!

Okay, so I MIGHT have mentioned to Saffy how if you pile up a whole whack of clothes on the floor, said pile makes an excellent and extremely comfy spot for nappin'.

A fact I know from personal experience, you see.

But not this time.  I, Seville the Cat, had nothin' to do with that comfy pile of clothes lyin' on the floor at the back of your closet.  Nothin' at all!

Well just check the colour of the fur stuck to all those clothes, Peepers.  You won't find a single gorgeous marmalade hair on 'em.  Not a single marmalade hair!  All the fur stuck to those clothes is dark charcoal grey.  Coincidentally, the same colour as my brother Saffron.

MOUSES!

Oh, and I forgot to mention, Peepers.  Another heads-up: you've got a bunch of tops and pants and other items of clothin' at the back of your closet, all covered in fur.

You might wanna do somethin' about that.

You know, BEFORE you put 'em on to wear.

'CAUSE EVERYONE KNOWS cat hair sticks to clothin' like the dickens.  It's super hard to get off.

Again, I speak from personal experience.

But again, NOT THIS TIME.  This time, that fur is all Saffy's doin'.  None of it is mine.

MOUSES!

not my fault

Not my fault.

Nope, it's not my fault at all.

MOUSES!

But to hear those darned peeps talk, you'd think it was ALL my fault, for sure.

Peeps do like to make others take the blame for stuff, don't they?

MOUSES!

You know, if Peep #1 would just let the hair on her legs grow...

What's that, Peepers?  What's that you're sayin'?  WHAT?  I CAN'T HEAR YOU!

Oh.

That.

Hmmm...

Okay, the peep might have a point there.  It might actually be kinda rude of me to be bloggin' about her hairy legs.

WHAT'S THAT PEEPERS?  WHAT ARE YOU SAYIN' NOW?

Oh.

Right.

Sorry 'bout that.

What I should have said was, it might actually be kinda rude of me to be bloggin' about the peep's FURLESS legs.

BUT THEIR BEIN' FURLESS, IS THE WHOLE PROBLEM IN THE FIRST PLACE.  MOUSES!

Now here's the thing...

On occasion, I have been known to reach out and touch a peep as they're walkin' past.  And sometimes, when doin' this, I might have a claw, or two, unsheathed.

And it's not just me!  Andy does it too.

Okay, so Andy might have picked up that little habit from watchin' me but anyway...

Anyway, on occasion, I have been known to reach out and touch a peep as they walk past me.  My intent is never to scratch 'em or anythin' like that. My intent is never to hurt 'em.  Never to draw blood, either.  Really and truly, all I'm doin' is sayin' hello.

But...

But due to Peep #1's hairy - I mean, furless - legs, sometimes one of my claws lodges in her skin.

But like I said, IT'S NOT MY FAULT THE PEEP HAS NO PROTECTIVE FUR ON HER LEGS!

MOUSES!

For mousin' out loud, if the peep were to grow a goodly crop of fur on her legs, like I have grown on mine, we wouldn't even be havin' this conversation at all.  No sirree.  I mean, I do the very same thing to my fur-sibs, and you don't hear them complainin'.

Okay, so sometimes, maybe you do.  But it's for totally different reasons.  Mainly, they just like to complain on account of their bein' ornery and stuff and...

What's that, Peepers?

WHAT?

FOR MOUSIN' OUT LOUD, WOMAN. You didn't want me talkin' about your hairy - I mean, furless - legs.  I thought you'd be happy I'd changed the subject, and was now talkin' about my fur-sibs' orneriness.

There's just no pleasing some peeps.

MOUSES!

let me help you with that

Hey Peepers!  You missed a spot.  Let me help you with that.

There.  All done.  You're good to go.

What's that, Peepers?  What?  What did I do?

NO, I did not brush any loose cat hair off your black jacket.  Don't be silly, Peepers. Why the mouses would I do that?

Truth be told, I added some more.

Yeah, that's right.  That's what I said.  I added a little more loose cat hair to the back of your jacket.  You can thank me later.

What's that, Peepers?  Why?  Why did I do that?

Are you hard of hearin' or somethin', woman?

I SAID, ARE YOU HARD OF HEARIN' OR SOMETHIN'?

Did you not hear what I said before?

I SAID, DID YOU NOT HEAR WHAT I SAID BEFORE?

Oh my mouses.  Sometimes I really wonder 'bout you, Peepers.

Like I said, you had missed a spot.

Do I have to spell it out for you or somethin'?  I  said, you had missed a spot.  YOU HAD MISSED A SPOT.  YOU.  HAD.  MISSED.  A.  SPOT.  MOUSES!

For goodness sake, not only are you hard of hearin' these days, but apparently, you're not too good with the thinkin' stuff, either.  Let me explain it to you.

I'm tellin' ya, it's like teachin' an infant how to walk before they can crawl. MOUSES!

Okay Peepers, when I saw you puttin' on your black jacket earlier, I happened to notice a rather large patch of black on your back, just below your right shoulder.  A rather large, empty patch of black fabric, with no cat hair on it which, as you can imagine, looked kinda weird on account of there bein' cat hair all over the rest of the jacket.

SO BEIN' THE EVER-SO-HELPFUL KITTY THAT I AM, I took a few loose cat hairs from my gorgeous marmalade fur, and stuck 'em onto your jacket.  You know, in order to make that bare patch look a little less bare, and a little more like the rest.

Don't stare at me with your mouth wide open, Peepers.  It's not a good look.

Anyway...  Clearly, when you were usin' that sticky roller thingy on your jacket before, you forgot to glue some cat hair onto that bare patch.

What's that, Peepers?  What?  What's that you're babblin' about now?

YOU WHAT?

WHAT THE MOUSES ARE YOU TALKIN' ABOUT, WOMAN?

Peepers, are you sayin' that the sticky roller thingy is meant to REMOVE cat hair from your jacket? Remove it?  Remove it as in, take it away? MOUSES!

Are you sure about that, Peepers?  ARE YOU SURE?

'Cause in all honestly, I think the jacket looks way better with a few cat hairs on it, strategically placed here and there.  You know, to decorate it and stuff.

WELL IF YOU DIDN'T WANT CAT HAIR ON YOUR JACKET, WHY THE MOUSES DID YOU LEAVE IT LYIN' ON THAT CHAIR SO WE CATS COULD SLEEP ON IT LIKE WE DID?

I mean, really.  REALLY.  I mean...

Oh my mouses, I don't know what I mean.

Peepers, you have me all confused now, too.  One minute you're leavin' your jacket on a chair to be decorated with our loose hair, and the next minute, you're tryin' to get our beautiful cat hair, WHICH WE SO GRACIOUSLY DONATED TO THE CAUSE, off said jacket.

And may I add, if gettin' the cat hair off the jacket really was what you intended to do, you didn't do a very good job of it.  There was only one bare patch.  Only one.  One as in only one more than none.

QUIT YOUR BABBLIN', WOMAN.  You're makin' no sense at all.

Not to say you were makin' any sense before, but now you're makin' even less.  Now you're just kinda crazed.  Crazed like a crazy squirrel who has run out of nuts in the midst of makin' nut pies.

Not that YOU'VE run out of nuts.  Oh no, and no sirree.  Peepers, you're about as nutty as nutty can be.

Why Peepers, you're as nutty as the nuttiest mad hatter that ever there was, durin' a COMPETITION of mad hatters, all tryin' to outdo the other hatters, in a race to the finish line of maddening hattering madness.

And what the mouses is a hatter, anyway?  Someone who wears hats?  Nah, that can't be it. Someone who makes hats?  Could be...

And would those hats made by those hatters, happen to be decorated with gorgeous loose cat hairs in dulcet shades of marmalade?

Really Peepers, the flailing of arms thing is quite unbecoming.

Oh my mouses!  PEEPERS!  I see another spot.  Yup, right there. Another bare spot, right under your left arm.  I couldn't see it before.  Not until your arms started flailing.

Here Peepers, let me help you with that second missed spot.  MOUSES!

gonna remain a mystery, for sure

Oh my mouses, Peepers, what do you think you're doing?  What's with the tweezers and stuff?  You torturing my computer or something?  You know, it's my computer.  You should have asked, first.

And for future reference, asking is always the polite thing to do.  That's why I always ask...

Hmmm...  Never mind. MOUSES!

What is that, Peepers? Is that a hair?  One of your hairs get lodged in the keyboard of my computer?  You should be more careful with that hair of yours, you know.  Especially when you're around my computer.

Not one of yours, huh?  Hmmm...  You could be right about that, Peepers.  Kinda short for your hair. Kind of orangey coloured, too....

MOUSES!

Now I know what you're thinking, Peepers, and what you're thinking is wrong.  That hair is not mine. I know it's short like mine and I know its ginger coloured but still...  Nope.  No way.  Not one of my hairs and that is for sure.

What's that?  You say it's not alone?  I should look where?

MOUSES!

No way, no how, is all that hair mine.  I mean, think about it.  If all of those hairs were my hairs, I'd be bald by now but look at me.  I don't have a single bald spot.  Not one.  Well except for my nose but I never did have any hairs on my nose.  And my fur does run a little thin by my ears but it always did so that's not unusual at all.  Nope, those hairs are most definitely not mine.

And you say you found all those hairs inside the computer, huh?  All of 'em?  All in there? Wherever were they hiding?

Oh, I see.  They were tucked in between and underneath the keys, huh?  That's why you needed the tweezers?  And did I hear the 'cuum goin' on in here, too?  You were torturing the computer with the vacuum?  Seriously, Peepers, that's just mean.

You know, Peepers, I'm not the only marmalade cat in this here house. Anderson and Rushton are marmies, too.  Maybe those there hairs are theirs.  Those there hairs are... HAHAHA!  Try sayin' that one, three times quickly.  Those there hairs are theirs, those there hairs are theirs, those there hairs are theirs...  Did it! But I digress.

Anyway, in case you hadn't noticed, those two marmie brothers of mine have a lot of hair.  They could probably lose a whole small animal's worth of hair and you'd never even notice.  Maybe even two small animal's worth of hair...

You say Anderson and Rushton weren't using the computer, huh?  How do you know?  Let's face it, Peepers, you don't know half the stuff that goes on in this here office.  Why, just the other day...

Ummm...  Never mind.

Anyway, the fact is, that there hair isn't mine.

And you're sure it's not yours?  I know, I know...  Little short to be yours.  Little too orange to be yours.  Or so you say.  I know it says golden brown on the box but seriously, there might have been a little marmalade colouring...

OR MAYBE IT'S ACTUAL MARMALADE!

Yeah, you're probably right about that.  Marmalade does tend to be sticky and not very hair-like in appearance at all.  Hmmm....

Peepers, do you think a burglar with short, orange hair might have broken in here and started messing about with my computer, trying to figure out where I keep the money I'm saving up for nip futures and stuff?  Now that could happen, for sure.  I can totally see something like that happening.  I mean, you hear 'bout stuff like that happening all the time.  Don't you ever watch the news, Peepers?  If you did, you'd know how that could have happened.  I wouldn't even have to suggest it.

You don't think so, huh?

Well...

Well I guess it's gonna remain a mystery then.  Yup, remain a mystery forever and for always. Guess we'll never know whose hairs those are.  Nope, never ever.  I mean, what are you gonna do, perform DNA tests or somethin'?

DNA tests, huh?  Oh-oh.

Oops!  Sorry 'bout that.  How careless of me.  Now just let me gather up all those short, orange hairs that look very much like what an orange-haired burglar might have and return 'em to the desk and...

OOPS!  So sorry Peepers.  I was aiming for the desk.  Really and truly, I was.  It was only by accident that I dropped 'em right there in front of the vacuum cleaner.

OOPS!  So that's the button you press to turn the 'cuum on, huh?  Who knew? Did you know that, Peepers?  I know I certainly didn't.

Well I don't know what to tell you, Peepers.  You'll just have to take my word for it that those hairs you found clogging up the computer weren't mine. Not that there was ever any question. Never any question, at all.  I'm still thinking it was an orange-haired burglar who broke in, in the middle of the night and to be perfectly honest, I really don't think you're gonna be able to prove otherwise.  MOUSES!

not takin' the blame for this one

I just want the world to know, right here and right now...  I am not takin' the blame for this one. MOUSES!

Christmas is right around the corner so you can imagine what Ol' Peepers is up to.  She's up to her elbows in yarn, she is. That's right, Peep #1 has been playin' with yarn. Sure, she calls it knittin' but we all know the truth. She's playin' with the stuff and what's more, she doesn't appear to be sharin', either.  Every time I try to help, she refuses my assistance.

So I get a little slobber on the yarn.  What's a little slobber amongst family and friends?  MOUSES!

What's that, Peepers?  You don't like knittin' whatever you're knittin' when all of a sudden you come across a section of the yarn that's all covered in slobber?  What can I say, Peepers?  Love me, love my slobber.  Besides, we all know you're just playin' with that yarn, anyway.

Someone should tell the peep that it's not nice to hog all the toys.  She ought to learn how to share.

Now before anyone gets their knickers all twisted, my peeps do know that allowin' cats to play with yarn, unsupervised, is a very dangerous practise.  Cats can eat the yarn and it gets all tangled up in their intestines and whatnot and causes all sorts of problems that may require surgery and can, in fact, cause death.  Peeps should never leave yarn lyin' about.  Never.  Not ever.  Not under any circumstances.

But I don't wanna eat the yarn.  I just want to play with it and I'm willin' to do it under the peep's supervision.  I really just wanna slobber over the part of the yarn that's movin' on account of the peep's knittin'.  Knittin'...  playin'...  whatever.  Apparently, I'm not even allowed to do that.  Like I said, the peep isn't sharin' her toys.  She's a toy hog, for sure.  MOUSES!

And speakin' of twisted knickers...  I, of course, don't wear underwear on account of my bein' a cat so I have no knickers to twist.

As as a short-haired cat, my fur doesn't even resemble knickers but I can't say the same for Tess, Rushton and Anderson.  Those long-haired fur-sibs of mine look like they're wearin' knickers, for sure.  Knickers...  bloomers...  whatever.  The fur on their back legs is all poofy and whatnot and sometimes, it even gets twisted.  Yup, they can get the mats if they don't allow Peep #1 to comb 'em.  Happens with long-haired cats, you see.

And Tess...  What can I say 'bout my sister Tess?  Tess, bein' Tess, gets her knickers twisted all the time.  Sometimes with mats but mostly on account of her grumpy personality which surfaces whenever Peep #1 wants to comb her.  Actually, the grumpiness doesn't really surface.  It's pretty much there all the time.  Just gets worse when the peep wants to comb her or somethin' like that. Peep loves her anyway, grumps and growls and all.

But I digress.  Back to the yarn and the peep's inability to share her toys.  MOUSES!

So Peep #1 has been doin' some knittin', gettin' ready for Christmas and whatnot.  She does this sort of thing every year 'bout this time.  Mainly, she makes things like nip mice on account of her part-time elfin' job for Santa.  She knits up the mice and stuffs 'em with nip.  Then Rudolf picks 'em up for transport to the North Pole where the elves wrap the nip mice so that Santa can deliver 'em back to us for Christmas.  Yes, it's true.  Santa Clause uses out-sourcing.  MOUSES!

Seems like a lot of extra transportation and whatnot, if you ask me.  I mean, those nip mice are made at my house but have to go all the way to the North Pole for repackaging before bein' brought back to me. But I guess if you're usin' flyin' reindeer who will fly for carrots and cookies, transportation costs are pretty cheap.  At least, that's what I'm assuming.

Anywho...  Peep #1 has been elfin'.  Yup, she has been knittin' up the ol' nip mice.  But then the other day, she started knittin' somethin' else.  No way, no how, was this new thing gonna be a nip mouse.  Far too big for your standard nip mouse plus, it was filled with holes.  The peep says it's lace but let's be real here and call it what it is.  I, Nerissa the Cat, am willin' to call a spade a spade and, in this case, call a hole a hole.  The whole thing is covered in holes! She must have dropped some stitches or somethin'.

Yes, I know about stitches.  I know all about how when a I jump on Peep #1's lap when she's playin' with her yarn, she tells me I'm makin' her drop her stitches.  Better stitches than britches is all I've gotta say.

But back to the piece of knittin' with all the holes.  Once cannot stuff a nip mouse with nip if said nip mouse is filled with holes on account of all the nip falling out of those holes.  A nip mouse without any nip is simply a mouse.  Simply a knitted. fake mouse with no nip.  Not good.  Not good at all. Not good for anythin' except, perhaps, sendin' the peep off on a reconnaissance mission to find all those lost stitches that fell through all those holes.  Any nip that fell out, I'll take care of myself. MOUSES!

The peep says what she's kittin' is some kind of scarf or somethin'.  Personally, I'm still goin' with failed nip mouse but whatever...

So the scarfy thing that's covered in holes was bein' worked on last night when suddenly, Peep #1 cried out, "MOUSES!"  Yup, that's exactly what she said.  She was havin' a mouses moment for sure.

Apparently, knitted into the butter yellow scarfy thing, was a strand of hair.

Now I should just point out that butter yellow yarn does not taste like butter.  I know this to be fact 'cause I slobbered over a bit of said yarn when the peep wasn't lookin'.  Had to do it.  Had to be sure the peep wasn't playin' with butter.

But back to the scarf and the peep's cry of distress.  Knitted into the scarfy thing, was a strand of long, brown hair.  I immediately recognised the hair in question and said, "Way to go, Peepers. You're sheddin'."

Now truth be told, I have been known to get my fur on stuff around the house and some of that stuff has been Peep #1's knittin'.  Every now and then, the peep will come across a sterling silver - some say platinum - hair that is clearly one of mine.  What can I say?  Love me, love my fur.  I say it to the peeps, all the time.

But this particular hair that was knitted into the knittin' was not sterling silver like my fur.  It was brown.  Just plain ol' brown with a touch of gold.  The colour was all wrong to be one of mine.  Plus, it was way too long.  It was even too long to belong to one of my long-haired sibs with the knickers.

Yes, this hair clearly belonged to my first peep.  Colour and length were both a match. Obviously, Ol' Peepers here is sheddin'.  Hope she doesn't shed too much 'cause let me tell you, the bald look would not be a good look on her, at all.

So the peep had to get out the teeny-tiny scissors and some tweezers and do some finicky kind of stuff to get rid of that ol' hair, knitted in with the yarn.  Did you know that doin' delicate, finicky stuff like that causes peeps to use language unbecoming of peeps?  Suffice it to say, it does.

I sat and watched the peep workin' with the tiny scissors and the tweezers.  She was obviously in need of some supervision.  I suggested that while she was at it, perhaps she could locate the missing stitches and patch up some of those holes so that the scarfy thing could, in fact, be used to hold nip.  My suggestions were ignored.

I also made a point of pointing out that the hair causin' all the peep's troubles was not mine.  No way, no how, was I was takin' the blame for this one.  It's true, I might be partially responsible for the vacuum coughin' up a hairball or two but this particular hair came from the head of none other than the first peep.

Does undue stress cause peeps to shed?  Hmmm...  If so, I actually might be more responsible for the hair in question than originally thought....

MOUSES!
