changing times

Don't complain to me, Peepers.  I like it, myself.

Got to have my brekkies a whole hour earlier, today.

MOUSES!

What?  What's that, Peepers?  You're NOT complainin', you say?

Hmmm...

Then what's with all the moanin' and groanin' I was hearin' you do?  I know I heard you complaining 'bout SOMETHIN'.  Complaining 'bout somethin' 'bout somethin', for sure.

And durin' all that complainin', I'm sure I heard the mention of clocks bein' changed.

MOUSES!

What?  What's that, Peepers?  What's that you're complainin' about now?

Hmmm...

OH....

Oh.

Okay, so you actually WERE complaining 'bout the clocks bein' changed.

Literally.

You were LITERALLY complaining 'bout changin' the time on the clocks.

That somethin' you don't know how to do?

Don't bother answerin', ol' peep of mine.  That was a rhetorical question of sorts.  I think I've figured it out.

Unlike you, who took almost fifteen minutes to change the one stupid clock on the stove.

MOUSES!

No, no.  No, I'm not sayin' I know how to change the time on the clocks.

If I tell her I do know, she'll designate me the official clock changer of the house.

And I've already got enough work to do.

MOUSES!

So let me get this straight, there, ol' Peepers of mine.  You, like me, actually quite like the start of Daylight Saving Time.  You like havin' an extra hour of light at night, to enjoy the ol' great outdoors.  And you're quite happy that the sun doesn't rise at 4:30 in the morning durin' the height of summer.  And most importantly, you enjoyed givin' me my brekkies a whole hour earlier today.

But the actual changin' of the clocks...

The actual physical changin' of clocks part...

Well, when it comes to actually physically changin' the time on all the clocks all through the house, it drives you nuts 'cause every clock has to be done slightly differently, and you have to get each one just right.  And as the one on the stove has a couple buttons to press after changin' the time - you know,  those buttons you kept forgettin' to press - well, that's why it took like fifteen minutes to change the time on only that one stupid clock.

Which, by the way - although perhaps I shouldn't say - is not yet correctly set.

'CAUSE YOU SET IT AN HOUR AHEAD OF WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED CHANGIN' THE TIME, is why.

So now it's 'bout fifteen minutes off.

MOUSES!

Well I hear you, Peepers.  I understand your dilemma.  I'm feelin' your pain, to be sure.  But what I don't understand...

What I don't understand, is why you don't just do the same thing you do with the clock in the car.

You know.

Oh, sure you do.

Yeah, that's right, Peepers.  That's EXACTLY what you do.

That's what I'm sayin', Peepers.  Do that.  Do what you do with the clock in the car.  You never bother changin' that clock at all.  And because you didn't change its time back in November, you don't have to change it now!  You just had to mentally change the time in your head, for a bit.  So what?  It was only four or five months.  And mentally changin' the time didn't involve pressin' any buttons or spinnin' tiny clock hands.  All you had to do was subtract one from any given number between one and twelve.

And if subtractin' one from the time was too hard to do...

You could always look at your phone.

That's right, the phone clock elves went and changed the phone clock for you.

And I didn't hear them complaining 'bout a little manual labour, at all.

the changin' of the clocks

Don't make me smacky-paw you, Peepers.  Don't make me smacky-paw you!  Don't you dare make me.

Oh come on, Peepers.  Come on...  I don't WANT to smacky-paw you, you know, but if I have to...

If I have to...

If I have to, I will.

MOUSES!

Peepers.  PEEPERS.  PEEPERS!!!

Lookie here, Peepers, the clock may very well say it's only seven in the mornin', BUT MY TUMMY is sayin' somethin' totally different.  MY TUMMY is sayin' it's already eight.

AND MY TUMMY IS ALSO sayin', it's time for my brekkies, for sure.

MOUSES!

Yeah, yeah...  Daylight Saving Time came to an end, overnight, and we're back on the ol' Standard Time thing-a-ma-jiggy.  I know all about that.  This isn't my first rodeo, you know.

But the thing is...

The thing is, even though I know all 'bout the clocks fallin' back overnight, I guess no one told my tummy.

Which is why...

Which is why, my tummy is rumblin' and grumblin' and wonderin' where-oh-where is its breakfast.

MOUSES!

Don't you just roll over in bed and ignore me, Peepers.  Don't you dare.

What?  What's that?  What's that your mumblin' on about now?

You say you're TRYIN' to ignore me but with all my rantin' and ravin', I'm really kinda difficult to ignore?

Hmmm...

Good.

MOUSES!

So hop to it, Peepers.  Get up off your lazy ol' tail and get me my brekkies.

Please.

Never hurts to be polite.

MOUSES!

And while you're at it, there, Peepers, why not throw in a few extra treats on account of my brekkies bein' a full hour late.

Watch your language, there, Peepers.  I have very sensitive ears.

MOUSES!

And also, while you're at it, perhaps you could...

Again with the inappropriate language.

MOUSES!

WHAT DOES A KITTY HAVE TO DO 'ROUND HERE FOR SAID KITTY TO BE SERVED HIS BREAKFAST?

MOUSES!

Yeah, yeah...  Don't worry your pretty little head off.  I know, I know...  I'm addin' the disclaimer, right now.

Disclaimer: Even though I, Seville the Cat, WAS pretty annoyed to have my brekkies served late this mornin', due to the return of Standard Time, that is where my annoyance ended.  I'll be more than happy to have an extra hour of daily evenin' cuddle time on the chesterfield startin' tonight.  After all, there's no point in stayin' out after dark, especially in late fall and winter when it's all cold and whatnot.  And I'm also pleased that startin' tomorrow, I won't be havin' to beg and plead to go outside for my first pee before the sun is up in the mornin'.  I mean, Daylight Saving Time (aka Summer Time) was great when the sun was up at 5:30 in the mornin', 'CAUSE THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NO NEED for it to be light at 4:30!  But last week, with the days growin' shorter, the sun was sleepin' in 'til eight in the mornin' and Peepers was makin' me wait 'til it got up and dressed before lettin' me out.  There's nothin' worse than havin' to wait for the sun to come out before bein' allowed to go outside for a pee.  Nothin' worse, at all!  But now that...

What?  What's that, Peepers?  What's that you're mumblin' on about now?

My disclaimer is somewhat longwinded?

Hmmm...

She and I must have different definitions of somewhat.

Peepers, love me, love my longwindedness.

You'd best love my adorable cheekiness, too.

just doin' my bit

So anyway...

So anyway, there was a...  a minor kerfuffle of sorts, at my house, early this mornin'.  But I'm not gonna name any names 'cause I'm not that kinda kitty, and...

Oh, who am I kiddin'?  I AM that kinda kitty, for sure, but still...

But still, I'm not namin' names.  Instead, I'm...

I'M PLEADIN' THE FIFTH.

MOUSES!

So anyway...

So anyway, as I was sayin', there was a kerfuffle.  And yes, said kerfuffle did involve cats.  Unnamed, perhaps, but it did, in fact, involve those of the feline persuasion.

MOUSES!

Now I'm not sure exactly what time this kerfuffle occurred on account of only some of the clocks havin' already been moved forward.  Moved forward for Daylight Saving Time, you see.  But even if they HAD all been moved forward, AT MY HOUSE, it's likely they'd all have been set for different times, anyway.  But that's that's another story for another day, and...

Oh, who am I kiddin'?  I'll address this issue right now.

Thing is, there are a multitude of clocks in my house, not to mention one in the car, and maybe some others.  But the fact of the matter is...

NOT ONE OF 'EM IS SET TO THE SAME TIME.

Every single one of those clocks is off by a couple minutes.  At least.  And they can't all be right.  That's impossible, for sure.  One of 'em MIGHT be right, I suppose.  Yeah, one could be right and the rest all be wrong, but odds are...

EVERY SINGLE ONE IS SET INCORRECTLY.

'Cause that's how we roll here at my house.

MOUSES!

But time - no pun intended - to get back to the topic at paw: the early mornin' kerfuffle.

The sun was up, but as I said, I have no idea what time it actually was.  Peepers was still in bed, snorin'.

Okay, fine, she wasn't actually snorin'.  But I'm tellin' her she was, and how can she know any differently?  After all, she was asleep.  She had no idea was was goin' on.

But then the kerfuffle happened and all H, E, double hockey sticks broke loose.  Peepers was up like a flash, makin' sure kitties were okay and whatnot, and...

And THAT'S how we kitties got Peepers up an hour early, to accommodate the movin' forward of the clocks.

Even though said clocks had mostly not yet been forwarded.

Okay, so I'm takin' some liberties there.  Not sure a clock can be forwarded without bein' moved - or somethin' like that - but hey, I liked the poetic metre.

MOUSES!

Yup, I was just doin' my bit to help out the peeps.

Plus, it meant brekkies were served an hour early.

MOUSES!
