they're lookin' for peeps

About a week ago or so, a rather interestin' thing came to my attention.  I was lying on the couch next to Peep #1 who happened to be watchin' television while givin' me some tummy rubs. Slowly but surely I began to drift off to sleep with the sound of the news or somethin' similar in the background. Then, moments before I entered full-sleep mode, a commercial came on. That commercial woke me right up. Apparently, they're lookin' for Canada's smartest peep.

Now I say they 'cause I'm not quite sure who they are.  Might be the TV peeps. Might be the government.  Goodness knows.  Remember, I was half asleep when I heard the commercial.  Could even be aliens or somethin'!  Stranger things have happened.  Although, to be honest, I think they might be the producers of some show for reality TV and speakin' of strange things...  Who would ever have thought that reality TV could become so darned popular, huh? MOUSES!

Of course, the strangest thing of all is that they're lookin' for Canada's smartest peep.  I know what you're thinkin'.  If you're out there lookin' for smarty, smarty pants, you should be lookin' for cats.  I realise that we cats can rarely pull off the pants component of smarty pants but where we may be lackin' in pants, we fully exceed all abilities of the peeps in the department of the smarts.  The pants requirement of smarty pants is somewhat unfair on account of our tails and where on earth are we cats gonna put 'em in a pair of pants?  Again I say, MOUSES!

Anywho...  back to the commercial.

So these television peeps out there are apparently lookin' for Canada's smartest peep and one criterion of bein' one of those smart peeps is an ability to put together a bookcase without readin' the instructions.  Yeah, I know, sounds kind of iffy if you ask me but that's exactly what was said on the commercial.  Now I'm paraphrasing here but it was somethin' like...  Can you put together a new bookcase without readin' the instructions?  If so, you could be Canada's smartest peep.

I find this interestin' on account of the fact that I'm pretty sure my Peep #1 could put together a bookcase without readin' any instructions.  Whether or not said bookcase would stand up on its own and be capable of holdin' any books afterwards, is another matter.

So are you really Canada's smartest peep if you can put together your new bookcase without readin' any instructions but when you place a book on one of its shelves, you have to stand back and watch as the whole thing falls apart?  REALLY?  I'm thinkin' that in that case you're far more likely to be Canada's funniest peep but the commercial said NOTHIN' about the bookcase havin' to actually hold up books. Just said it had to be put together...  without readin' any instructions.

Hmmm...   I'm reminded of the time the peep put together that new barbecue and there were pieces left over!  MOUSES!

Anywho...  back to the bookcase.

One must question the importance of bein' able to put together a bookcase without readin' any instructions.  You see, if you have a bookcase, you probably have books and if you have books, you probably can read 'em.  So if you're able to read your books, why wouldn't you be able to read the instructions?  I mean... why?

And if readin' those instructions would make the puttin' together of the bookcase easier and increase the likelihood that said bookcase would actually be capable of holdin' books without fallin' apart, wouldn't the smart thing be to read 'em ?  I mean...  wouldn't it?

I've heard tell of peeps who simply refuse to stop and ask for directions when lost, driving around and around and around in unfamiliar places.  I've heard tell of my Peep #1 doin' just that.  No, no...  she says.  I'll find it.  I'll figure this out.  I don't need any directions.  Don't worry.  Five hours later, she figures it out all right.  Five hours later, the sun is beginnin' to set and she finally knows which direction is west.  MOUSES!

Anywho...  back to the search for the peeps.

Perhaps what this new reality television show should really be in search of is Canada's most stubborn peep.  Yeah, 'cause I'm thinkin' that such an adamant refusal to read the instructions on how to build your new bookcase when the instructions to build it are sitting right there and, by usin' those instructions you're much more likely to build a bookcase that is actually capable of holdin' up books - not to mention holdin' itself together - is not a sign of bein' smart at all.  On the other paw, it is a sign of bein' stubborn, for sure.

Interestin'...  Now that I think about it... If they're lookin' for Canada's most stubborn peep, they've got that wrong, too.  Really, they should be lookin' for Canada's most stubborn cat 'cause when it comes to stubbornness, we cats sort of have that market cornered as well.

Either way, whether they're lookin' for brains or stubbornness, what they really should be lookin' for are cats and not peeps.

'Nough said.  MOUSES!
