it has seen better days

Remember the ginger?  No, not the ginger cats who are my marmalade brothers.  I'm talking 'bout the ginger plant my peep put in the family room right between the window sill and that big old chunk of wood called an armoire.  You know, the big plant that was always getting in our way.  Well, let's just say that the ginger has seen better days.   Hehehe...

First of all, my sister Tobias found that she could, in fact, jump from the window sill to the armoire.  It wasn't an easy task but it was possible.  Sometimes, a stem or a few leaves took a lickin' or two but that was okay.  A cat has gotta do what a cat has gotta do.  Don't you think?

Secondly, the plant had a problem.  Yes it was a problem but that's another issue for another day.  It also had a problem...  a drinking problem.  And the problem was getting way out of hand.  The plant was demanding to be watered - heavily - every, single day.  Now, I don't water plants.  I just don't.  That's not my job.  So, the watering was all left up to the peep.  And rightly so, since it was her plant.  For me, it was just a nuisance.

Thing is, with the arrival of spring and all, and all the work needing to be done outside in my garden, the peep just plum forgot.  Forgot about watering that ol' plant.  It didn't take long before the plant started to complain.  But plants don't do the complaining thing very well.  When I complain, everyone knows...  and I'm talking everyone.  But plants...  they don't have a lot of vocalisation skills, I guess.  Instead of hollering to the hills - which is what I would do if my fountain wasn't filled to the brim - they just sit back and quietly wither away.  My gosh, plants are even sillier than peeps!  Who would have known?

The peep thinks she can bring the ginger back to life and that's okay, I guess.  She says it has gone dormant, or something silly like that.  Looks more like dead to me.  But, if she is right and can get the thing to recover, it should take a bit of time, I would think.  It can take as long as it likes.  It's not in my way now.  Not in the middle of the road between the window sill and the armoire chunk of wood thingy and that's just great.  We have a clear jumping path and that's fantastic, as far as I'm concerned.

So for now, let's just say...  the ginger has seen better days.

  3. Maybe that's why we don't have any plants here!

  4. Your mom is brave. MY mom learned quickly that NO plant life is immune to my blandishments. No plant. Not even her mom's cactus. My mom got that cactus when her mom passed away. I tried to respect the sentimental value but it was hard. I spared it a bit more than the others tho..to my credit.

  5. haha - at least you have your runway back. M said she gave up on indoor plants long ago for that very reason - she always forgot to water.

  6. Well, the ginger did make a nice backdrop fur that pic. Our Mom thinks she can revive plants too. MOL!

  12. Poor ginger but, at first - when you tweeted the headline, I thought you were referring to a cat. That would have been far worse.

  13. Our Daddy sound just like your peeps! Despite sitting right next to his plant, he could never remember to water it...even when it's leaves started turning yellow. We just don't know who's sillier...Daddy or the plant.

  17. Plants are good for one thing: ripping off leaves. Oh! Two things: sharpening claws if plant is tree. Oh! Three things: peeing on. Hm. That's it. Loves ya! Herms

  18. Oh no! It sounds like your human may be as hard on houseplants as mine is. In fact, we don't have ANY right now because they are all dead. NOT dormant!

  19. Definitely going with the catnip option here!! Much more useful lol

  20. Mom learned not to keep any "real" plants inside the house or else risk losing them to kitty toofies. So all of her "real" plants are outside of our reach in the yard.

  21. My Human has one giant plant and so far she hasn't dedded it--not completely, anyway. It came kinda close once about a year ago when she didn't water it for weeks. I eat some of it efurry day but it grows faster than I can eat it. I think I need some help.

  22. Our mom has a BS in Botany and she has killed every house plant she has ever owned! Go figure that one!

  23. That looks like a BIG ginger plant and it certainly COULD have been in the way of a lot of normal activity for you guys. Even though your peep is determined to bring it back to life, you can always hope it gives up the ghost! I have an affinity for my Mom's palm tree....those bottom branches call to me occasionally. I prefer softer bunching material but a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do.

  24. No plants to worry about over here, except a couple of plastic ones. HH is lousy with plants and she is wise enough to realize her limitations. We have no plants.

    have a great day...

  25. Glogirly can't grow a thing. She claims that she's going to plant me a container of nip and grow it on our deck. I'm not harboring unrealistic expectations.

    1. None of us chew on indoor plants, much. A pansy here and there, maybe... We did munch on her potted lettuce, I will admit. But the peep tends to grow really icky things inside. Not good for eating. Did you know that she's even growing a couple of citrus trees? CATS HATE CITRUS! It's quite disgusting, really. Sometimes we'll climb a plant if it's big enough or just give it a good biff. Mainly, we just watch the peep neglect them 'til they're dead.

  28. ahhh house plants..I managed to do it two of 'em in my first 2 months here...now there is only one and they keep it out of my reach...so they think

  29. We deaded plants all the time so now LP will only keep African violets in the house. No one likes them for some reason!
Since we are just starting to get to know you we are not certain who the ginger cat is in the first photo. Is it Tobias? She/he is really adorable! Srsly cute. OMC!

    1. There are twelve of us cats here, in my house, so it gets pretty confusing. And sometimes... the peep uses pictures that might not be the most appropriate 'cause... well... we're not all that co-operative... 'cause we're cats, I guess. Anywho... the fawn coloured cat in the top photo is my sister Mason. The lower photo is of my sister Beatrice. I think the peep was looking for pictures that included the ginger in its better days. My ginger brothers are Rushton & Seville. If you go back to previous posts, there is a picture of Rushton in "that's my spot!" and one of Seville in "playing the slots at the fountain." Tobias is a sterling silver tabby like me. I think there's a picture of her in "oh grey haired one." Hope this helps. purrs

  30. You know, if your human fails to water adequately, you could, well, you know.....hey! Dirt *is* for digging, right?

  31. What a sad ginger plant story!! :( I hope it revives itself soon. Some plants are forgiving and after a good drink, they get back to normal.

Meanwhile, happy sailing through the air to the armoire!

  32. Maybe you should trim it with your teeth? Then demand ham for being helpful AND you have clear jumping space. This was Au's idea. He's furry smart when it comes to ham.

  34. When we moved to our current house we decided not to have any indoor plants, just because I manage to get them all.. err.. dormant ;) And also because Nala loves to eat the soil from the pots, and I don't love cleaning up after her as much... :)
